2019 International Duty

Supposedly Berhalter was going to call up Jozy/Bradley but didn’t because “Toronto is in a playoff race”. Excuse me? Isn’t NYCFC the same and you can argue it’s even worse to call up SJ - who will be backup keeper and won’t even play - when his team has important club games?

He said he didn't want to take three players from the same team, but the article I read also mentioned that NYCFC could have opted out of playing this week but didn't because they didn't want to schedule another midweek game.

Wonder if Toronto could have opted out of this week and decided not to?

Matarrita was already going to be suspended for Vancouver and New England. Since he is called up for New England and Toronto, the end of his suspension will carry through the San Jose game on 9/14.

Slight update to this. Apparently, Costa Rica only has one game in this cycle, which is on Sep 6. Assuming that Matarrita is then released back to NYC, he would technically be available for the Toronto game. This would mean his suspensions would be for Vancouver and Toronto, and he would be back for San Jose.

Regarding Johnson's call up to the USMNT - he is one of four goalkeepers. The other three, Guzan of Atlanta, Gonzalez of Dallas and Steffan of Dusseldorf, do not have any games during the international window. Johnson is the only one who will have to miss games because of being called up.

That, combined with the fact that Berhalter called in 4 goalkeepers instead of 3, suggests to me that Johnson might get released after the Mexico game on Friday. Johnson is the solid #2 with the USMNT, so his call up makes sense. This keeps him involved with the team, but he doesn't have to stick the whole week to get a lot of benefit.

If that’s the case he could play in both matches for us. I would hope so, but I expect the worst.

If Steffan were hurt before a WCQ, I think Guzan starts 100% over SJ.

If this is Chanot’s replacement for Luxembourg... woof. Don’t ever see him delaying his call up again.

even if it is, who cares. chanot delayed his departure because he knows we have very important games coming up for playoff positioning and his first game with luxembourg is just a friendly. he has a bit more influence, i guess, since he is the captain and he knows he will play in the more important game. but still, it's fantastic that he recognizes that our club league games are more important than some friendlies.

dome sorta called out some players who decided to leave early or whatever, to go to a friendly game and miss the league games. for people like SJ, who won't see ANY TIME AT ALL... it should be a given that he's staying at home to play with the club.

Chanot and Dome very sensical.
I’m kinda glad Dome said something cause I was feeling the same way. How can you leave your main job, where you are a starter, during the most crucial time of the season to go sit on a bench watching other guys play a pointless game.

Poor Zimbabwe. First Mugabe, and now this.
I'm a collector of defunct or distressed paper currencies(yes, I'm a nerd). I've got a bunch of Zimbabwe dollars (Z$100,000 worth or so) that were worth like $3-4 USD when I got them.
To bring this somewhat back to NYCFC, I was in a Government office in NYC two years ago and ran into a young fit guy wearing a nice club jacket I don't think I ever saw for sale publicly. I asked him how he got it and in a broken conversation between a guy who speaks limited Spanish (me) and a guy with limited English (him) he told me he was I believe a cousin/friend of Yangel Herrera and just came in from Venezuela. We had a choppy conversation for a few minutes about the club and the Venezuelan crisis and at the end I asked if he had any Venezuelan Bolivars I could buy from him. He didn't, but he got on the phone and walked away, then came back a few minutes later with a various stack of them Bolivars! I offered to buy them, but he gave them and said "few years, I buy my car with this much, now, maybe a coffee and eggs if God is with me" so I gave him a Starbucks gift card I happened to have on me and he laughed and said "God is with me this day!"

Pretty funny, random and largely irrelevant from this thread but I don't think I ever mentioned that on here before.

Anyways, if anyone on this diverse forum happens to have any such currencies from your native or ancestral lands that you can part with let me know! I'm currently trying to build a collection of pre-euro notes.
