I understand Chanot had a great year, but I'm not certain I see him finishing above Opara, Robinson, or Zimmerman on this one. Perhaps Zimmerman.
  • Minnesota let in 71 goals last year. Opara came on this year and Minnesota went on to let in a 4th best 43. That's quite a turn-around and I think we all have an idea on how good Opara is. Also, SKC last year with Opara let in 40, this year without him, 67.
  • Robinson has pretty much been the only consistent defender for Atlanta this year and they also let in a 4th best 43.
  • Zimmerman was part of LAFC's record squad that only let in 37. Perhaps Chanot could finish higher than him since the rest of that LAFC team was so good, that most opposing team's just didn't have the ball to create significant chances.
  • Let's also remember some of the pretty bad mistakes Chanot has had this year that have led to goals. I don't mean to roast him, because he has been great this year, but those can't be ignored in this.
Maxi had an amazing year as well, but I don't see him garnering any votes for MVP this year. If everyone that voted on this were to get 5 votes and they could rank 1-5, sure Maxi should definitely be getting some votes on those ballots. But in this season with the year's that those three guys had, he shouldn't receive any votes as the sole MVP.

Heber was robbed. Seems that Mitrita and Heber split the Club vote, also more players voted for Mitrita rather than Heber. A few percentage points to Heber and he takes it. (Similar to how David Villa won the MVP award in 2016 as BWP and Kljestan split the vote for Red Bull.)

I love that they give the breakdown. Pozeulo easily won the player vote, Gil won the coach/executive votes, and Heber the media, who I am regularly advised all hate NYCFC.

Gil won by coming in no lower than second in any category. Pozuelo came in 7th among coaches and execs, while Heber finished 5th among players.

ETA: And you can't say the players hate NYCFC, because Mitrita came in 4th, so he really did split the NYCFC vote.

All the players that Heber burned voted for somebody else.

I guess it's easy to win Coach of the Year when everybody thinks you'll do well and have the MVP and the best players. Tata won Coach of the Year last year even though Red Bulls won the Supporters' Shield.

Its also easy to win coach of the year when you set records for:
  • Most points in a season
  • Highest goal differential (+7) over second
  • Most goals scored (tied the record)
  • Least losses (tied the record)

You really looking to pick a fight with >50% of the players? I think they are aware of how much talent LAFC has.

That aside, our guy again does better with the execs/coaches than with the players. Seems to be a trend.

I think if they actually put out a best XI that included fullbacks, then you'd see him on there. And if not, I'd likely entertain the notion that he was robbed.

But as these things always go, there's like a bajillion attackers in the XI. One GK, 3 CBs, and the rest a variation of AMs, Strikers, and (attacking) Wingers.
