There is no leaks yet regarding the 2019 NYCFC kit, but MLS fans have learned something new thanks to The Athletic. I found this on r/MLS and it will be the start for this thread.

The Athletic has learned that as of next season, MLS will begin to allow teams to sell advertising space on the sleeves of their jerseys...

The article is behind a paywall. But, NYCFC will likely have an advertisement on sleeve next year too. Nexen Tire is on the Man City kit. Will we get that too? Or something else?

nooooo i tend to dislike the arm ones more for some odd reason, i guess since i am used to the front ones already. maybe its ny presbyterian?...id be cool with something like that.

Just as long as it's not Angry Birds, like Everton though would be a good idea, or "Vist Rwanda" (visit fucking Rwanda!) for Arsenal.
Man U repping Kohler provides the jokes.

If it's bringing in $1 million per team, let's get ads on the lower back too.

Come on everyone, we don’t want to look like the Red Bulls.

Honestly, who cares. It's non-intrusive. We already have a giant advertisement on the front of the shirt, which is only accepted because it's the European standard anyway. Ship has sailed. Take the money and run. The entire stadium is plastered with ads, there's video boards around the playing surface, what is one more at this point?

In a vacuum, I'd love clean gear. But ads are like tattoos - once you have one, who cares if you get more. And it can significantly impact the quality of play. The estimate I saw was that sleeve patches alone could sell for as much as $1 million per team. Would you really turn down $1-3 million in TAM per year (let's be honest about how they would distribute that) for a few more ads on the shirts?

the thing is, there are still teams with no main sponsor in their shirts ( colorado, houston) so is this really helping them? they having problems already finding someone for ad money

And the Revolution have a sponsor only as a sweetener for a Patriots sponsorship deal.

The more ads, the greater the chance I don’t buy the jersey - I doubt I’d be the only one. Sales have to be weighed against additional sponsorship. Adidas is ultimately chipping in more $$ than a sleeve sponsor.

Funny story. Back when I supported the Revs and shirt sponsors were just starting, some Revs fans insisted they would never buy the Jersey until they have a shirt sponsor on the front instead of the Revs logo.
I know this is different, but it's a funny story anyway.

But it's not going to be a direct relationship of extra ad dollars for jerseys to TAM. Not all jerseys are the same. Ad space on a jersey for NYC or Atlanta, or LAG is a lot different than ad space for Colorado, San Jose, or New England.

I don't see the league increasing TAM/GAM due to selling smaller ad space on jerseys at the point the league is at now. There just isn't enough eyeballs on it yet.
