2019 Offseason Thread

There's not one but 2 NYCFC Poland Twitter accounts. There's the one currently reporting on the Carlitos situation
https://twitter.com/NewYorkCityFC5
and this one, which seems to have gone inactive right around the first historic home opener in 2015:
https://twitter.com/NYCFCPoland.
Which is a shame because the defunct one has the better handle.

FYI we also have NYCFC Portugal, inactive since 2014
https://twitter.com/nycfcPortugal
And NYCFC Brazil, quite active
https://twitter.com/brasil_nycfc

there have been a few fan made "international" accounts since team started. I seen brazil one, italy one, and i think a UK one. not sure how active they are after lampard, pirlo and now villa left.

I'm thinking it would take a couple injuries/international duties for Mata to crack the lineup in any midfield position this season. If Sweat locks down LB, Mata may see some rare minutes elsewhere, but like last season, that wouldn't indicate that he is not primarily a left back, just that he couldn't beat out Ben Sweat.

I think you're right about Mata he doesn't really have a spot. If this is how it plays out he's going to be a strong candidate for worst contract on the team based on his high salary. It's crazy how far he's fallen from being a guy with such a bright future there was a ton of squabbling about sell on clauses with his old club to a utility backup with few future prospects. A lot of his fall has been from unfortunate injuries but he's also never put it together mentally. He's got a ton of talent but his attention to detail is just abysmal. He's made very little progress on the holes in his game during his time with NYCFC. It's sad because the talent is there.

FYI for everyone, further down the thread the account supplies its basis for this unofficial report:

The account was accurate yesterday when it posted info with no link, so when he says today that this comes from a source inside Legia by way of a friend, I'm inclined to say it's probably true, but not undoubtedly true.

It's clearly marked as UNOFFICJAL. What part of UNOFFICJAL is hard to understand??

1- Congrats to Ring.
2- Is that hoodie available from the club shop?
Not yet. Still the waiting game for the new kit release (and accompanying gear). I spoke to some folks at the Adidas flagship store today and they had informally heard that items would be available "later" in February FWIW.

ETA - They took that to mean towards the end of the month, but I wouldn't rely on that. As a point of reference, they were released on or around Feb 7 last year.

Carlitos and Mitrita are either going to work out great or their failure is going to be used as a water mark for MLS's continued growth for a few years.

Sign me up for that uncertainty. Better than not having aspirations to win a MLS cup and strive for mediocrity.

I have high hope for these signings, but if they don’t work, I’ll be just as disappointed if the club doesn’t try again with these type of signings

Exactly. At least they're trying. I think they assuaged a lot of fears with the high transfer fee for Mitrita, and it's also pretty evident that they've spent the offseason patching the holes in the roster. It may work, it may not work. But at least they're making additions. Seems like a lot of teams in the East have not had a good offseason, so on paper we probably have the 2nd-best roster in the conference behind Atlanta.
