For the Villa discussion keep in mind, that in order to replace him with a high level DP that will likely mean waiting until the summer transfer window to get a big name on a free transfer and going half a season without a DP.

This is true, and will be every year. The question then becomes, do you defer this until Villa has his crap season, and ensure a total of 1.5 wasted DP years, or do you drop Villa before he has that crap season and only suffer one half year of DP waste?

I faith have that he will retire if he doesn't think his body will hold up. He's been very consistent about that in comments made over the years. He saw how embarrassing Pirlo was.

Despite my repeated skepticism, I have some hope of that as well. Probably not as much as you or others, but some.
And to be clear, I don't doubt his intentions as much as his ability to self-diagnose. That's where so many athletes fall short.

Who has been unable to secure a starting spot with the Revs for the last 3 years, and has been labeled the next big thing since 2011 almost. I mean, he's better than Brek Shea... but. I'm being a bit of an ass here, because at the eye-test level it is pretty obvious that his natural gifts are 4x those of Berget, for example. But there is also something deeply disappointing and troubling about Agudelo.

Depends if he would take the same $1.2mm salary from us and we could TAM him after cutting Berget's $800k. And we're not TAMing Villa. I don't want him as a DP.

Whoops! He makes $575k. Considering what we pay other players on our roster, I'd grab him in a heartbeat for Lewis! Especially if we can cut Berget's salary.

Thinking harder about it, Agudelo has never really found his finishing touch. Decent holdup play and dribbler, and gives an effort to win the ball back, but if he can't finish and isn't known for sending a cross in, not sure he's a great fit.

Their last three coaches have had a COMBINED total of one year professional coaching before taking over.

It's sell high time with Sweat. Call up one of the many teams in the league with limited player evaluation resources and go how would you like a guy that started all last year for a playoff team and just got his first USMNT call up? Even if you're in the Sweat is good value camp it's time to pull the trigger as the guy's about to get a substantial raise that's going to price him way beyond what his actual skill warrants.

My worry is we do the same thing we did with Tommy and play ourselves into a cut-rate (aka accurate) value of the player.

But I really just can’t be bothered about what we get back. I want both on the first thing smoking out.
