Medina will not net us Allocation Money

  • The club may assign up to $750,000 of the transfer/loan revenue as General Allocation Money. (In the case of Designated Players, such assignment of Allocation Money can only take place after the club has received 100% of its out-of-pocket investment).
This means NYCFC would get equal or less than equal to its buying transfer for Medina on the sell for Medina.

Come on, Man City won't buy Medina for NYCFC Fee + $1M so we can get the most GAM for transfers ($750K)?

After the transfer buying fee is recouped, MLS receives 25% of the transfer selling fee.

I thought this only counted if you net a win on the transfers

Say NYCFC paid $1M USD for Medina. On a sale...

NYCFC recoups all funds up to $1M.

The remaining sale price, if greater than $1M, is split 75 percent to NYCFC and 25 percent to MLS.

NYCFC can put a maximum of 750K towards the their split of the greater than $1M to GAM.

I may be naive, and I admit that I don't know MLS rules very well, but... isn't this kind of a moot issue? I mean, Medina has been a bust of such magnitude that it is very unlikely we'll be able to sell him for anything close to what we paid. So the question is: if we sell him at a huge loss, do we have to account for that difference and lose GAM, TAM whatever? or just regular money but nothing that hinders our ability to continue building the roster and planning for a Medina-less future?

Sorry if the question is dumb, but I expect any kind of wierdness from MLS rules

You can't lose GAM/TAM on transfers. It is possible that any GAM/TAM assigned to Medina for this season can't be used on a different player, but I'm not unsure of that.

Not really a big consideration in this case because Medina is a young DP. Obviously no TAM is being used and since his budget charge is 200k, only 50k of GAM can be used to buy down his budget charge to 150k.

The bigger cap issue is going to be if we replace him with a older DP. We would also likely have to protect him in the expansion draft if the front office thinks they can get some of the transfer fee back.

We paid $4 million for him.

To get AM out of the deal, wed have to sell him for more than that.

New signing slipping under the radar?

$108k base salary. Anyone know anything about him?

This is good. Tinnerholm currently had no replacement and it's also looking like it'll help us be able to shift to 4 in the back when needed.

Stats are for Montreal* (2014-2015), Colorado (2016-2017), and Minnesota (2018-2019). Originally drafted by Montreal I think, all stats from Transfermarkt. Looks like he played a lot of minutes and slowly got phased out/became a backup for Minnesota. Essentially just what we need, a backup RB since Scally got hurt.

*EDIT: Added Montreal MLS stats.

i guess scally is still ways away from getting minutes.

He feels like an Ethan White. Won't give much going forward but won't be a defensive liability. Looks like he can play on both sides of the defense. At 24, maybe he has another gear that a good coach can unlock for him.

He's 26. And this makes me worry the Scally injury is as bad as people on here are hearing.

So this offseason we've:

1. Added depth at the wing
2. Found our backup RB

We still need to:
3. Move Medina and...
4. Replace with a DP that can START for this team.
5. (dreaming) LB. I know we have Mata and Sweat, but what's the old football adage: "If you have 2 QBs you have none"

dont know why people still on this medina stuff. the dude is not going anywhere, he is not going to get bought because the dude is not playing and when he does he sucks= no interest. i really dont see CFG taking a loss with the transfer fee even if his value has dropped. we're stuck with the guy till end of season, mayyybe they will buy him out

i do agree on LB, Mata is the guy but his injuries and him getting caught defensively really give us a need for someone there. apparently this miller dude can also play LB ( but does not go forward on attack on either side) so well see.

Agreed. It will take a miracle to have somebody buy Medina right now, and I'm near certain we cannot buy him out mid-season.

Because LAFC and Atlanta have sold underperforming DPs for a loss to free up the spot. NYCFC have proven to be slow learners, but they do learn. This roster has been a major overhaul since year 1's mistakes and Medina & Mitri are copycat moves based off of ATL & LAFC. No reason not to hope they also copy their FOs by selling Medina, rather than have an albatross on the roster in a year when they can compete for a cup. How often will we have this chance again?
