2019 Schedule Thread

On the MLSsoccer.com post, they list Round 1, Conference Semifinals, and Conference Finals as subject to change. Say we make to the Conference Finals, what probability do you think MLS/broadcasters would move the date of the game to accommodate us playing at Yankee Stadium? Game 7 of the World Series is October 30th. 72 hours to change the field would mean Saturday, November 2 (not during the FIFA International Break).

If I had to ballpark it, I'd say the probability is zero.

We’re 1 point away from securing a home match. When do you think they start offering up post-season tickets?

Last year, the league moved a Seattle playoff game under similar circumstances.

It was the second leg of the Western Conference semifinals. It was moved from Sunday, Nov 11 to Thursday, Nov 8 due to a home game for the Seahawks.

That said, it is probably equally likely that they just put us in Citi Field.

I'd be fine with Citi Field. I don't want a Saturday playoff game, I want to be there.
I'm putting all my money on Mets in 7, so that Citi Field game might have to be moved, ya know? Just sayin'

Could be a problem if it's a Mets/Yankees series though. Might have to do some serious planning for this.

Citizens page has us not finishing in first and playing in the first round.

The Houston Astros have clinched the top seed in the American League ahead of the New York Yankees. Astros are +2 ahead in the standings with two matches the play. The first tiebreaker is head-to-head, which Astros won this season 4 games to 3.

Therefore, ALCS Games 6 and 7 would be on the road. Yankee Stadium is available.

If we clinch the 1st seed, while it's unlikely our first playoff match would be a Yankee Stadium due to the time constraints of selling tickets with a 1 week+ margin before the game due to the Yankees possibly contending in games 6 or 7, it's possible the 2nd match could be at Yankee Stadium if the Yankees don't make the World Series.

Nothing like peanuts and crackerjacks at a baseball “match”.

I honestly wrote out table first, before deleting it and writing standings.

But honesty, what sports are the proper term for game, match, competition, meet, or something else?

I found that sports originating in the UK have the word match to them. Rugby match, football match, tennis match, golf match. Colonial sports are games.

Meets are a series of competitions between two teams consisting of individual events. Swimming meet, wrestling meet, tennis meet (collegiate level).

Also, the Dodgers have clinched over the Yankees, as well, so if the Yankees were to advance to the World Series, they wouldn't have the Stadium until Game 3 of the World Series unless the Dodgers get upset in the NL playoffs.

That means if they advance to the ALCS, the Yankees' last game of the ALCS at home will be Thursday the 17th, and their next potential home game could be as late as Game 3 of the World Series on Friday the 25th, with their last game coming on the 27th.

Or the Dodgers get eliminated, and the Yanks would play World Series Game 1 at home on Tuesday the 22nd. Still tons of question marks.

That said, if they handle this the way they handled it in 2017, they won't let NYCFC play at home during that period. Back in 2017, they decided they didn't want to do stadium switches during the playoffs.

We're also assuming the Astros will win the ALDS, which is a good assumption but no guarantee. We won't know confirmed dates until days before the games, meaning the team will still likely have to move their games as long as the Yankees are still in it.

Right. In 2017, the issue was that once the Yankees entered the ALCS, they wanted extra time to prep the field for the World Series, so they shut down the use of the field until after the World Series. This included canceling a college football game on Nov 4, but not our playoff game on Nov 5.

But the college football game this time around is way after the World Series. We’re not playing any playoff matches at Yankee Stadium.

Hard to know for sure. I half think the cancellation in 2017 was blamed on the World Series but was more about our game.

The Princeton - Dartmouth game is not selling any tickets. The Yankees are only opening the bottom part and even then not all sections. Are they really going to let that go on instead of drawing 40K+ for a marquee event that involves a team they partly own?

I know the Yankees couldn't seem to care less about NYCFC, but I struggle to believe they'll let Princeton and Dartmouth play there instead of NYCFC in a league championship game. That would be such a slap in the face to NYCFC, and since this is actually a pretty prime event, you'd have to think the Yankees would WANT NYCFC playing there for the MLS Cup Final.

The Yankees won’t allow anyone to touch the field as long as they’re in the playoffs, regardless of whether theres enough time to convert or not.
The field will therefore only be available after the World Series. As long as they cancel the college football game, we could use it for MLS Cup. Nothing before.
