2019 Schedule Thread

the timing was weird enough that when I clicked "reply" on @

LionNYC's post, the text was not strikethrough, but when I was typing my post, the strikethrough on Ring came through.
that's dark scary magic right there

Ring retired from international play with Finland

ETA: mgarbowski mgarbowski beat me to it, and the timing was weird enough that when I clicked "reply" on LionNYC LionNYC's post, the text was not strikethrough, but when I was typing my post, the strikethrough on Ring came through.
that's happened to me before when I reply to people, their changes are in the reply but not in what I read! It makes sense why it happens, too lol.

I'm just hoping our schedule doesn't mess with the players again.

Ring?
Sands? (US U23?)
Keaton? (US U23?
Isi?

Libya has the same ACON issue not being during INTL break.

Nothing’s been announced for the U23s and I don’t think we have to release them for non-senior matches.

As mentioned, Ring retired from the international stage.

Tin always has a chance of a call up, but Sweden hasn’t been looking his way lately.

OK I checked that tweet and it depends on what your definition of "full rest" is I guess, though not a huge difference anyway. He is correct if you count a game on Sunday followed by one the following Friday as not full rest. To me that is weekend to weekend. It's the shortest possible full rest but I still consider it full, but I suppose people could disagree. My way comes to 3 games full rest for Atlanta and still 5 for NYCFC.

Maybe this dude wants to go back and investigate past short rest weeks, or maybe he’s doesn’t since it doesn’t fit his narrative, but NYCFC has had some crappy condensed weeks.... this sequence was particularly bad:

Sat-Wed-Sun-Wed-Sun with the Sat after that at Colorado at altitude.

He's clearly talking about now to the end of the season. If you want to look at the past -- which is relevant -- go ahead. But given that Atlanta has played more league games, more USOC games, plus CCL games, I would not assume that NYCFC has had more short rest or tough travel weeks. But feel free to check both, compare, and report back.

Are we the worst team in league without full rest?

How is that David Silva can play 90 minutes on Sunday at Burnley and then 90 minutes on Wednesday at Shoktar Donetsk?

Next four games:
Cincinatti (away)
Columbus (home)
RB (home)
Vancouver (away)

I fully expect:
Win @ Cinci
Win vs Columbus
D/W vs RB
Win @ Vancouver.

Anything other than that and I'm mad. We cannot draw against Cinci side that has only beaten at best Portland. We cannot draw or lose against columbus who until recently have shown no signs of life. RB I'm more skeptic bc RB, but vancouver have won one in their last 11.

I fully expect 10-12 points.

The September schedule is pretty difficult, so this team really needs to make some noise the next four games.

Looking at our remaining schedule in light of this week's power rankings.

at #23 CIN
vs. #18 CLB
vs. #6 NJ
at #22 VAN
vs. #9 NE
vs. #17 TOR
vs. #7 SJE
at #12 DAL
vs. #3 ATL
at #9 NE
at #2 PHI

Breaking down our 11 remaining games by quartiles: 3 vs. top quartile; 4 vs. 2nd quartile; 2 vs. 3rd quartile; 2 vs. last quartile. Average overall ranking is 11.6, which is a higher ranking than the 12.8 of all the other teams in MLS.

Our next 6 are a lot easier than our last 5. Our 5 home games are against tougher opponents on average than our 6 road games (average ranking for home opponents is 10 vs. 13.6 for road opponents).

Sunday, September 22at FC Dallas6:00 pm
Wednesday, September 25Atlanta7:00 pm
Sunday, September 29at New England5:00 pm
Sunday, October 6at Philadelphia4:00 pm

These are remaining games. The ones in bold are only live on Fox Sports GO. It's a travesty that the second biggest home match of the year (Red Bulls being first) is only streaming. Final home game of the season and it's vs. Atlanta and it's streaming. We desperately needs a new TV deal. We get 0 from YES Network in terms of additional content or real coverage of this team. Every game should be televised on basic cable.

We knew about this when the season started, but it's still atrocious.

If you look at my breakdown in the CCL thread, other teams in East have it worse when also factoring in schedule congestion along with strength of schedule.

Is it not on MSG?

Honest question: What's YES supposed to do? The Yankees get a much, much, much larger TV audience. YES2 isn't a good option because it's not available everywhere. Parts of Manhattan, for example, can't get it. If you get YES as part of your cable subscription, you get FOX Sports Go. And considering the prevalence of smart TV's, you can still watch the game on your TV through the app on your TV. So I really don't understand why it's so bad.

What channel would you rather the games be on? SNY has the same issue with the Mets, and MSG already has the Red Bulls and they don't put much energy into their Red Bulls coverage, either. YES is fine. They have great announcers and the broadcasts are of a good quality. You think the grass is greener on the other side? That's not always true.

YES would absolutely do more NYCFC coverage if the ratings showed that it would be worth it. The ratings are trash. We know they're trash because they don't publicize them. If there was an appetite for more coverage, they'd do more.

No one worry. It’ll be steaming on Amazon soon enough. Then we can hopefully build a worldwide audience.

no lie, why not just use that my9 UPN channel. I think philly uses their own UPN channel i think for their own games too. they used to show yankee games there but then that moved to Pix. i dont think that channel gets any sports any more.

Does My9 or PIX want to alter its primetime schedule for an NYCFC team that doesn't get a rating? It's not as easy as simply putting a game on a different network. Whatever they have on their network at night most likely outrates NYCFC games.

they can survive without family feud once or twice a week. especially when they show that like 5 times each day. also its now owned by disney and in if YES is dropped they can extend that hand to show them locally, or on ESPN+ like chicago.

all im saying is that if philly can do it on that same channel in their market we can do it here.
