2019 Schedule Thread

im worried the longer they delay sales for the playoff game. The emptier the stadium and shittier the atmosphere. Also less timed for team to practice there. Just settle on semis at Citi and start selling tickets. Let conf finals at YS hinge on yanks making WS. Get back to business. All this up in the air BS isn’t good for anyone.

If there is one rainout then there will be 2 more games played and 4 total by their existing deadline of the 17th. If the Yankees win 1 (or both) of the next 2, then it's Citi anyway under the published matrix.
The tough call for NYCFC will be if the Yankees lose both. Do they push back the date to start sales (as you fear), or do they bite the bullet and take the safe but less popular (you notwithstanding) option of Citi Field even though it might turn out they could have had Yankee Stadium. I think they do not push it back. But I also think the Yankees win at least 1 of the next 2 and sales for Citi Field start the next day.

I really felt that after a game one win, they were better off just taking the certain thing of Citi Field. All this delay is costly.

I just don’t get why the want less than a week to prep for and sell their most important/profitable game of the year.

They don't want it, but how do you sell single-game tickets to a game at Yankee Stadium, then move the game to Citi Field? You have to know your stadium before you can start selling tickets. They're in a brutal spot here, a can't-win spot. They obviously want to be at Yankee Stadium and will wait as long as they can in order to get it, but it will cost them at the box office.

The other argument is: It's a playoff game. If fans want to go, they'll find a way to get the information and buy their tickets. Fans already know they want to go depending on which stadium it's in, so it's just about reaching out to those fans and making sure they purchase tickets. I think they opened up a quasi sign-up sheet on their website so they can inform fans when tickets go on sale. I don't think this will cause as bad attendance as you think. If this was a regular-season game, they'd have a problem. In the playoffs, I think fans will find the information and buy tickets.

No one likes not knowing where we're gonna play. There are some who can or can't go depending on which stadium it will be at. That's perfectly understandable and that's just the way it is. I don't think the club is doing this on purpose. they are doing the best they can with the stadium situation we have right now.

Those who can go to the game regardless of venue (like me) are lucky. I really hope we bring the crowd, but it'll be perfectly understandable if it's not a sold out stadium. But hey, plenty of people have said on these forums that a queens based stadium would probably draw a bigger crowd... so if we do get moved to Citi field, bring on the crowd QUEENS!

btw - as i typed that last sentence, i had a flashback of eddie murphy pointing to Queens on a map in coming to america.

They should have announced Citi Field two weeks ago and started selling tickets. You will lose some STHs but it gives you time to try and make that up in Long Island.

that would have made them look really stupid then if they announced citi field 2 weeks ago and then yankee stadium was available. yes they're both baseball stadiums, but our home is yankee stadium. it's only natural that we'd want to play there if at all possible.

I wouldn't have a problem if the club _DID_ announce a move to citi field for the playoffs to avoid any scheduling conflicts with the yankees, but I understand why they are doing what they're doing.

Can't please everyone.

the last thing you want before the playoffs is unnecessary uncertainty and they’ve foisted it upon themselves. Even dome wants turn to prep at Citi and now he won’t have all that time. Best thing they could have done was say Citi first game. Conf finals TBD based on yanks making WS. Done. You’d know about WS before you’d know if NYCFC advanced. Everything is locked in and all that’s left is to sell tickets and prep for opponent. Now EVERYTHING is in limbo.

The potential rain out will have an interesting effect on the series.

The conventional wisdom is that it will advantage the Yankees because it will allow them to pitch Tanaka in Game 4 instead of throwing a bullpen game. But, in reality, all it does is move some planned starts around without really changing how many times the best pitchers will throw in a 7-game series.

Below shows the probable shift in game days and off days.

Original: Game 1 - Game 2 - OFF - Game 3 - Game 4 - Game 5 - OFF - Game 6 - Game 7
Adjusted: Game 1 - Game 2 - OFF - Game 3 - OFF - Game 4 - Game 5 - Game 6 - Game 7

Basically, the Tanaka-Greinke matchup that was slated for Game 5 becomes the matchup for Game 4. Similarly, the Paxton-Verlander matchup moves from Game 6 to Game 5. For Game 6, however, it seems unlikely that either Severino or Cole would go on 3-days' rest, so that's going to be the Yankees bullpen against Houston's 4th pitcher, Urquidy - the matchup that had been slated for tomorrow night. Game 7 remains Severino vs. Cole.

Perhaps the most important effect is that the Yankees planned bullpen game would shift from the middle of 3 consecutive game days to the 3rd of 4 consecutive game days. If the Yankees have to use their bullpen a lot in Game 4 or Game 5, that could be an issue. It will be interesting to see if they might try and do something like start Sabathia in Game 6.

By the way, before anyone tries to point out that another rain out could lead to more interesting shuffles, no rain is forecast for Thursday or Friday in NYC, and Houston has a roof.

The Astros win Game 3 by a score of 4-1 and lead the ALCS 2-1. With the potential rainout of tomorrow's Game 4, it's possible that tickets will only be starting to sell by Saturday morning if NYCFC waits until it reaches a potential Game 6 to finalize the venue. They are going to have to push hard to sell at least 20,000 tickets for this match, on a weeknight.

so if tomorrow’s game is rained out (strong possibility) - we’ll have the following scenarios:

Thursday - game 4
Yankees win - game confirmed at Citi Field
Astros win - site still unconfirmed, move to Friday scenarios

Friday - Game 5 (if NYCFC scenario still not decided)
Yankees win - game confirmed at Citi Field
Astros win - win series 4-1, game confirmed at Yankee Stadium

Gonna be a little more difficult to sell tickets last minute since they cost more than normal game tickets.. and if they do a flash sale to fill the stadium.. sths will not be happy paying full price.
