2019 Season Ticket Thread

STH for most sports do not get the value of their tickets. Even the Giants and the Jets have to run Groupon deals now and they had a 40 yr waiting list at one point. The value of the tickets only occurs where there is a demand and scarcity of the ticket. The reason Giants and Jets Season tickets were valuable because the games were locally blacked out until the mid 70s. So the only way to see home game was to actually attend. The benefits of Season tickets for Yankees fans is that you get guaranteed playoff tickets. As a Mets fan I can say there is no need to be a STH. Maybe after the Wilpons sell the story can change.

This is my opinion from having 20 yrs of being a Giants STH and my father being a 60 yr STH of the Giants. The value has plummeted since the creation of 2nd market and the new stadium. My friends were able to purchase PSL and their season tickets the yr after the last SuperBowl for the same price I did.

Before i was an NYCFC season ticket holder, I was a Jets season ticket holder. They gave me $50 per seat 300 section tickets. It was a great deal bc they knew that was the value, even though they were originally listed for $90 each back then, and created a Lower tier for us budget conscience. That was pre-2015. No clue what they go for now, but they call me every year.

Yep, at this point, the value for STH just isn’t there. The club should reward founding members with 50% off face and all other STH 30%. That will help to offset the tanking of price on secondary market and act as a backstop to the reasoning of dropping tix.

Good post.
If you're going to compare decades back, the biggest difference is price. The most expensive Yankee ticket in 1967 was $3.50.

At regular inflation, that would be a laughable $25.76 today. And attendance was much, much lower then than now.

For the Giants, the best I can get is an estimate that the average price in 2000 was about $50 based on a combination of 2 pages. At inflation that would be $74 today when in fact it was $115 in 2018.

With that supplemental info I agree with everything you said. In today's market the value of season tickets (or even partial packages) is little more than convenience (including maybe pushing yourself to attend more than you otherwise would), feeling more a part of the team, and occasionally the ability to guarantee special event (eg playoff) availability.

* Yes, the link says jets games but it is in fact the Giants. And the link for Jets prices says it's the Saints. Go figure. https://www.statista.com/statistics...rice-for-new-orleans-saints-games-since-2006/

All you need to know about the modern sports ticketing environment in a single anecdote:

Historically, the Yankees have scheduled Old Timer's Day against a weak team, typically whichever non-east teams looked to be the worst for the upcoming year. It was a guaranteed sellout so the best bang for the buck was scheduling for what they thought was the Sunday afternoon game likely to have the lowest attendance. If you went on Ticketmaster when tickets went on sale, you could probably get crappy tickets in the first hour or so, then sold out.

This year they scheduled against arguably the most talented team in the league and a fierce playoff rival the last two years and it's still not quite entirely sold out.

Did anybody here get this from the club? I traded in my tickets for the next game so I'm obviously not expecting to be gifted extras, but I'm curious to find out more about this.

I got it but it has a caveat note saying to get them before all supplies run out. Wtf??? If this is an offer of appreciation, don’t Fcking make me pull the trigger with no time to consider/or be shut out because I didn’t check my email or am on the go.

I’m not going to have a chance to look at it until later so until then it’s a hollow offer that may not still exist or be near my regular seats.

It’d also be nice for my rep to call me up and personally discuss it/get me seats next to mine, rather than a mad-scramble surprise email.

Yep, sure enough I logged on to get them and they didn’t have any left. What a poorly executed “thank you” - don’t Fcking tell me you’re thanking me for my continued support to only then tell me I’m too late to get the tix offered.

Would have been better to never make the offer in the first place. This club is so poorly run is nauseating- between this and their fraudulent StubHub refunds, their fan services dept is a bunch of inept twits.

You know in the time it would have taken you to write that essay to complain about free tickets, you could have checked your email and got free tickets.

Thanks for the life lesson, and hopefully you’re a better teacher to your students than what you show in that post since you clearly can’t comprehend that that maybe I didn’t want to claim tix I wasn’t sure if I could use until checking with a friend. But yeah, you go ahead and do what you do best and post obnoxious shit when you didn’t have a stake in it.

They emailed me at 9:17. So I never had a chance.

some of you got it late, i got my email at like 6:05PM, but from responses it may have been only like 10 tickets up for grabs. i didnt check because for me its supporters section so i figured anyone i bring i can still use stub hub or something to get them.

I wonder if here might have been different sets of tickets available to different people based on location.

I am so sorry some of you didn't get something for free. How horrible of the Club.
You miss the point completely, but that’s a fantastic hot take.

It’s 100% disingenuous to say something is being offered out of appreciation for continued support of being a founding member, only to then not have enough to go around for the limited emails sent out, especially when there are plenty of non-sold seats.
