2019 Season Ticket Thread

If they’re under existential threat, then they do what any other club does in a similar situation and they sell the club to owners with a different vision. Along with everything else that’s been discussed, there’s the white elephant of the club’s ownership group and marquee sponsor - it’s very easy to despise them if you keep up on world events/politics. A reboot of the club under different ownership could/would improve attendance, as both a new car smell and if the owners are more proactive about signing the opposite of not-star players.

MLS will not contract in NYC, so there will be a second team here, and if NYCFC falters, there’s a team ready to launch out in Queens that could slide in if another group didn’t outright buy the FC club medallion. So I’m not worried about existential threats, I want the current club to be fair to all of their tix holders, and if they can’t right the ship then maybe they aren’t right for the job.
There’s not exactly a track record of anyone having success doing what they’re trying to do where they’re trying to do it.

Not sure they can find a greater fool, given the challenges they’ve faced. We have no idea what the actual paid attendance figures are, but given the desperation we’ve seen, they can’t be great. The front office turnover tells us that those with the most inside information don’t like what they see.

Hard to find people to throw good money after bad.

The challenges they've faced are self-inflicted. They negotiated the stadium rental deal with their minority owners. They set the tix pricing. They developed the player acquisition strategy. They've refused to use on a regular basis, and to the max, the MCFC loan parameters that MLS agreed to allow, which would help their roster & balance-sheet. They chose to slow-walk the lobbying efforts in the city evidenced by filings. They are also victims of identity of an ownership group despised in England (and beyond) by anybody not on the MCFC bandwagon.

And there will always be an individual(s) that is interested in getting in on a deal to be an owner of a sports team in NYC, especially in a sport with as much upside as Men's soccer - If CFG ever put NYCFC up for sale, MLS would have their pick from a number of groups, you can mark that down.

Also signed a bad TV deal with their minority partner. Also signed a bad ticketing deal with Stubhub, probably forced on them by the venue they rent from their minority partner (which you mentioned was a bad deal to begin with). Chose virtually identical uniforms as their parent company/team in Manchester and have spent the last 5 years trying to differentiate them and make the colors more NYC. And probably 100 other more screw ups along the way.

Totally agree someone else with big pockets would buy the franchise and hopefully change to the ATL/LAFC/InterM approach NYC deserves. It’s almost like they treat us like we were only the 7th largest city in England or something.

The "anything else you'd like to tell us," box was conspicuously missing at the end.

I took advantage of the benefits of owning season tickets’ “other reason” box. There was no word limit. So I went off on them there.

Surprised your didn’t say in that box, “none after last week.”

Founding members are still getting their discount though? Nothing has changed there so I've no reason to be mad. But apparently some people are now pissed that other people may get the same discount? That's where the entitlement comes in.
The promise was join the club early and be loyal to us by buying in every season and we will be loyal to you by providing a discount. The discount is pittance to be fair.
I wrote a negative in the negative box and a negative in the positive box.

If you're LionNYC I'm sure that negative feedback means more to them than most other people.
...Though at the same time I feel like the ideas some people on this forum have might be worse than what they plan...

Nowhere does it ask for name or where you sit, and I don't submit my email address for the raffle. So unless they check IP addresses or something, I'm just another statistic.

So the club just offered the founding member discounts to those who dropped their season tickets, but not to gain back founding member status, correct?
That is correct, but the invitation was a bit ambiguous as it didn’t outright confirm status wasn’t returning while using the FM term liberally.
