Email from the club:

Dear City Members,

Continued health and best wishes to you and your families. During this time, we know a constant dialogue is important, so wanted to share the following updates with our most loyal fans:

  • MLS recently announced that games will be paused until at least June 8th and that the goal remains to play as many matches this season as possible.
  • Due to the uncertainty around the timing of the restart of the season, the total number of games to be played, the competition format and the feasibility of playing a full slate of home games with fans, we will not take any additional payments for the 2020 season at this time.
  • While the League fully intends to continue the 2020 season, we want to be clear that if any games are officially canceled or played without fans, City Members will have the option to automatically apply the amount of money on account towards the 2021 season (along with a package of enhanced benefits and added value) or receive a refund.
We will share more details as soon as possible. Please continue to speak to your NYCFC account representative should you have questions.

We can’t wait to see you in person. Until then, stay connected with us via Stay Healthy. Stay Home.

One team. For the City.

I’d be interested to hear what the “package of enhanced benefits and added value” that they will use to try to get people to not request a refund are.

They're fighting a losing battle here. Realistically I can't think of anything that would keep people onside if they're wavering, and we see every year with the ST packages how hard it is to keep people happy with freebies. The team has an almighty battle on its hand to keep a viable number of members on its books, and "enhanced benefits and added value" alone won't come anywhere close.

As they should.

I'm curious as well. I wonder if it will be a "free dad hat" type (re: leftover season ticket gifts) or an actual upgrade/add-on like free seat upgrades, meet the players, behind the scenes invite, etc.

I would also include a financial incentive.

Just give me two of the 2016 adidas NYCFC vests in size large and I'm good. That is the greatest piece of non-kit merchandise the club ever sold.

I’m glad the Post takes them to task and exposes them for who they are. Both of those organizations are a bunch of ownership-asses. Our club is right there with them by not making refunds the default option rather than a jump-through-hoops saga.

I received calls from a couple of different folks at the club concerning the plan for refunds and roll-over and it seems that they at least get it now. Of course and not surprisingly, they were also curious as to my thoughts on what "enhancements" I would deem worthwhile to keep my money in :)

ETA-Just saw that they have sent a survey asking the same!

You’re also a sideline sitter. They want to keep you most of all and make you happy.

I just did the survey, and it was so poorly worded with options - the best was what would make you pay in full for 2021? Wait wut???? They think there’s any chance anybody would be willing to pay in full? I pretty much told them that considering they’re holding 2/3 of the full invoice already paid, and have had it since August, some self-awareness is needed that they should be doing everything possible to stay on good terms with STH - even if we want refunds, they should be rolling out the 2021 enhancements to show they aren’t taking advantage of us, especially considering there’s no resale value to being a STH with secondary tix so cheap.

Credit +10% is an interesting option.
10% is nothing when STH retainage was in free fall before the pandemic, and during/after people are going to be very nervy about being in large groups without a vaccine.

I don’t plan to attend any matches until there’s a vaccine. If it means I pay regular founding member rates, so be it, but the club has held 2/3 of my paid tix total for the last 9 months - they don’t need the money, they’re big enough to get a revolving line of credit from a bank or phone the ownership for an infusion. That this is still going on with no resolution is a joke.

And yes, I know the 10% was from the Yankees, but as part owners, NYCFC is mulling the same.

One thing I didn't really think of. Even though these are "Season Tickets" and we are buying for the season, remember that these are actually "City Memberships"
I've noticed that Six Flags is not refunding its Season Pass holders but crediting them their missed park opening days towards next year
