I realize most of the discussion will be in our match threads but thought we should have a place to discuss the tournament generally?

I’m tuned into Club León v LAFC, and one team looks like they’ve played six competitive league matches together since the beginning of the year and the other looks like it’s the first time they’ve taken the field together as a starting XI

lol. my thoughts exactly. LAFC look out of rhythm. they don't have any drilled patterns. poor touches everywhere. sure, they are missing some key players and had to figure out a different CB pairing without zimmerman, but this is not the dominant LAFC we saw last year. they are really missing atuesta in the midfield. blessing is running around and kaye is giving up the ball every other touch.

i'm rooting for them. MLS teams all the way!

In other news.. ATL are tied 1-1 with Mantagua.. with the precious away goal..

LAFC is looking crazy bad. Idk if that's because it's the first competitive game, or if that's because they're just... worse. Makes me very very happy we pulled one of the weaker teams in the tournament!

Don't think we're fully appreciating the importance for this tournament of our entire roster coming back from last year. Obviously we'll be rusty on Thursday, but you have to think our lack of roster turnover is going to be a positive factor for us.
Reminds me of Toronto 16 vs toronto 17. Not a lot of turnover, were raring to go back out, and they smashed that season. Hoping we see some parallels :)

LAFC's defense was mess on the second goal. El-Munir had a bad turnover (after a poor decision by Vela to pass to him), and was alone at the back against 3-4 attackers. Then Jakovic casually loops back just in time to put everyone onside without disrupting the play in any way.

I'm still attributing it to 'preseason form' because they were gassed by like '75. In the beginning of the first half they were trying... but they just died half way through

I concur. Is it the curse of the Zimmerman?
Maybe LAFC is going to challenge NYCFC for the Clown College award for defensive turnovers this year.

Also didn’t help that they traded their best center back a week ago.
True, but I think if they have more time together they'll work better.
Yeah match fitness was definitely an issue.
Leon looked so good at times It may me think MLS teams don’t have a chance.
I think there is a chance if we get into season form before we play the big teams!

lol worrying about preseason games. LAFC won i think all of them and look at their performance. very sloppy play and probably could of lost by more.

Yea cause lafc had poor tactics and didn't prepare. They won their games and felt confident.

We lost most of ours but I don't feel we are properly prepared for our game either. Many key players not match fit due to injury. Not a lot of game time for starters in general. I worry we will see a sloppy and slow team tomorrow, not too different from what lafc showed.

if we are sloppy too then it just proves that pre season results dont matter. fitness has been an issue for all MLS teams in CCL ( and even in start of season in MLS) so this is not something new. the minutes/ reps are needed but if injured or have risk for injury it seems deila wont risk it.

again, at this point i would be concerned based on who is injured, not because we didnt get the results in preseason games

This is why I'm always amazed when people easily suggest dumping Chanot. It was only a few years ago that we had pages of forum conversations about how badly we needed stability along the back line. The familiarity that Chanot and Callens have with each other is a massive asset and something I think large portions of the fan base have started to take for granted.

The whole back in general. In essence*, we have had the same back 4 + GK + CDM for the third season in a row.

*In essence as Sweat did play a decent amount as LB and the occasional injury, 3/5 ATB, etc.

Preseason don't matter
