2020 Roster Discussion

this is sort of a joke - but wouldn't it be crazy if the new coach came in and somehow inspired medina to become a superstar, racking up double digits goals and double digit assists for us in 2020.

i think i need more sleep. this sinus infection is effecting my brain.
Hey had this. It was called Dome coming in. And that didn't work, did it...

cant stand Mata’s moments of stupidity. But I’m 100% fine with him as the backup. Especially since he can double as a LW when required and you want versatility in your bench players.
I’m not fine with his price tag. He’s being paid starter money but is a backup at best.

If I wanted a highly unreliable backup, then I'd have gone with Sweat instead of Mata, because he'd have been much cheaper.

both unreliable. On can play LB/LW. One can play LB/CB. One may have transfer value but is always injured. One is MLS lifer and stays pretty healthy. One gets called up every INT break. One only got called up once and probably won’t again. the second one is much cheaper than the first in a salary capped league.

i agree Sweat was the better option to protect as the backup LB. But since Reyna didn’t. I’ll still take him as a backup LB who is familiar with teammates when matches start in 60 days. Much better than starting from scratch with 2 new LBs, neither of which will be any type of guarantee.

Yeah. Kinda wonder if the loan ends and we then purchase outright. No reason to do it before the draft. Also wonder if there are Cap reasons to wait a bit longer.
Or another 1-year loan similar to what we did with Ofori.

I always got the sense that Benfica wanted him back eventually, but another year out on loan would do him well, especially now that he's integrated with his teammates. Though a new coach and likely a new system could have it's own learning curves that could (not saying it will) lead to initial reduced playing time. But then again, the whole team should be in the same boat on that.

The following players are under contract for the 2020 season:

Goalkeeper (3): Luis Barraza, Sean Johnson, Brad Stuver

Defenders (7): Alexander Callens, Maxime Chanot, Sebastien Ibeagha, Ronald Matarrita, James Sands, Joe Scally, Anton Tinnerholm

Midfielders (5): Justin Haak, Maxi Moralez, Alex Ring, Tony Rocha, Juan Pablo Torres

Forwards (6): Valentin Castellanos, Héber, Gary Mackay-Steven, Jesus Medina, Alexandru Mitriță, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi

Can someone clarify why we had an option on Ofori that we declined, who was here on loan, but no option was picked up or declined on Parks? Wouldn't the same roster rule and procedure apply to both players? Reading between the lines, I think Ofori is gone but they still hope to retain Parks.

My other reactions:

1. Looks like we are not buying out Medina, which means we need to sell him, which was always the better option anyway.
2. We need two CMs and a LB. At CM, we only have two starters, one prospect, and two squad guys.
3. Any other additions are a bonus, but we should get some bonuses too.

Four players have had their options exercised for the 2020 campaign: Luis Barraza, Sebastien Ibeagha, Ronald Matarrita, and Brad Stuver.

The Club has declined the 2020 options for Daniel Bedoya, Jeff Caldwell, Eric Miller, Abdi Mohamed and Ebenezer Ofori.
