2020 Roster Discussion

Wasn't Mitrita's departure because his pregnant wife never received a US visa at all, rather than the pandemic? The club surely knew this.

He wanted to be closer to his family because of the pandemic-related travel restrictions, I believe.

i think we will have a lot of prospects to consider going into 2021 for our DPs. the question is whether or not the club will be aggressive in going after a proven player from a top level league or if they want to gamble on a young gun with high potential. I honestly don't know which is better. In both cases, you are technically gambling. Plenty of superstars have come to MLS and fell flat on their face. This will come down to the scouting department finding a player that can adapt and has a play style that fits into ours. Most of all, if we bring a superstar, someone who is all in and not just here for the paycheck or just "wanted to live in america for a time".

I am anxiously looking forward to what the club does...

I don't know what his contract situation is, but I think it is time to move on from Ismael Tajouri-Shradi.

YearGoalsMinutesGoals/90Minutes Played Pct.
20181115470.64050.76%
201959400.47930.72%
202036700.40332.37%

I think his constant injuries have masked that even when he plays, he is much less productive than he was in 2018. Adjusting for minutes played, his goal pace in 2019-20 is 70% of 2018. I think there can be room on a roster for part time players who score about 0.45 goals per 90, but you also need them to be available, and the combination of lower production and substantial unavailability is, I think, too much dead weight.

I think the injury proneness more than anything is why we should move on from him, not the goalscoring etc. I think the injuries break up his chances of getting a decent spell on the wing, meaning he isn't getting into the groove. But that happens when you get injured so much. Same reason why we need a non-heber striker.

Didn't he have an insanely high G-xG or something a year or two ago? I'm not surprised we're seeing some regression to the mean. I still think he links up better with Tinnerholm than any of the other options at RW, but I wouldn't be too upset if we upgraded with a DP there either.

He did, he was like top 3 in the league or something if I recall, perhaps even the best.

Last year he also had an insanely high G-xG. Part of Isi's ordeal isn't just injuries, but it's getting himself into dangerous areas and then taking shots. He's a fantastic finisher, yes. But you'd hope someone with that talent to get himself into more situations to take good shots.

Just about to mention something like this. I believe his first year with NYC, his first 6 shots on goal he scored. Which is absolutely ridiculous and would definitely skew the stats for year one.

Even now his rate is ridiculous. Like 20 career goals on 40 SOG, somewhere in there. Of course, only having 40 SOG in 3 years is a problem.

Maybe touches per game would be a valuable stat? Like trying to see if he is active and getting in good positions when on the field? My impression is that he tends to SOG more readily than other attackers in our roster, who tend to go for the unnecessary extra pass more often that not. I wonder if 40 SOG over three years, if that number is true, is low compared to other attacking players in our roster vis-a-vis minutes played.

This season was so bizarre I wouldn't hold injuries this year over anyone, especially ITS who's one of the few technically skilled players we have. At worst he's a good rotation guy/squad player. That said, we could really use a true DP winger in the mold of Pavon.

If anyone thinks it will be easy persuading big name DPs to come to New York next year, read Anton Tinnerholm’s latest Instagram post.

We are all hoping our current situation is temporary, though. But yes, I think it will be tough to sign international players as long as the pandemic is raging.

Yeah, until COVID travel and quarantine restrictions are lifted globally, it's going to be tough to attract foreign talent.

i honestly dont think that was the plan, they were probably going to go to South America and get two DP's hoping they are almirons but may end up being two medinas.

EDIT: also his post leads me to believe he may be willing to listen to the Lokomotiv Moscow offer that allegedly came in
