2020 Roster Discussion

And the discussion continues with will they finally move Medina and replace him with a DP (or a pastrami sandwich)?

The 2020 Roster Discussion thread starts with this: Will Maxi Moralez be part of the team?

This leads me to believe they don't really have a clear deal with Mertens. On the flip side, mertens isn't really a like for like replacement for maxi either. If we can get rid of Medina for mertens... perfect. pretty sad though cause Medina did seem like he had lots of potential. but for whatever reason, after his injury, he's turned into a shell of his former self. aside from a decent USOC match and a decent showing the one game... he's been pretty useless.

He wasn’t good in USOC match. Was just in right place at right time for one moment. Was pretty shit the remainder. Then again I had Seth Seth blocking my view the whole match with his crazy antics.

Nothing in the article about term or compensation, but obviously good news.

So last year they locked up the spine (Johnson, Chanot & Ring). Now they locked up Tin. Assuming none are DPs, I'm really glad they are keeping a core together that are comfortable with one another. There has been so much turnover in previous seasons. This is a close to the team having an identity as I've ever seen and it shows on the pitch. If Medina being a DP wasn't so damn frustrating, I'd be giving this club high grades for roster construction (even with the LB weakness).

I think we’d have it announced if he was a DP. I’m happy with the move. There really isn’t a lot we need to improve upon for our XI now going into next season. LEFT BACK might be our only area of concern.

All these guys we've signed to long contracts still have 3-4 years at the top of their game, barring any catastrophic injuries. Interested to see who else gets a new contract, if anyone (other than Maxi). This core has been great over the last 2-3 seasons, they will just need to catch a break once and I think we can get to a cup final.

Yep, they signed Johnson, Callens and Ring to multi-year extensions at the end of last season and Chanot at the beginning of the off-season. They signed Matarrita to a multi-year extension at the end of the 2017 season. I don't think we have extended anyone else currently on the roster. Most of our attackers haven't been here long enough to warrant one - probably Shradi will after this season as he is only under contract through next season.

If he was ready long ago, do we think this could mean a non-dp salary? :D
or buy him down with tam or something?

Was thinking that they may have waited because they were figuring out how they plan to use DP slots and *AM in 2020. Which is encouraging in the sense that maybe we won't end up starting next season with clear gaps like we did with the lack of striker in 2019.

So he arrives and can’t score for club but becomes dominant for his national team?

Ugh, he "signs for NYCFC", there is an injury for Man City, he goes there and stays longer than expected, gets slightly injured at Man City, finally comes to New York. But then retires. Or decides to go back to Argentina.
