2020 Roster Discussion

out of these first 3 games - i dare say Medina has out performed Mitri. Yes, Mitri has a goal off a PK rebound, but other than that, he's been abysmal. His touch is off, his dribbling is off, he doesn't even shoot anymore, and worst of all, he doesn't track back on defense or fight for the ball. Medina has his flaws, but he's at least putting in more effort than Mitri and Mitri costs a whole lot more than Medina. So, if you want to be down on Medina, it's only fair to lump Mitri in there too.
Stay focused on Medina - he’s the issue.

And separately, I already have lambasted Mitri. But he’s not a bigger problem than Medina. Mitrita is at least a #3DP - we’ve looked very dangerous with his free kicks and corners. Medina is not even a TAM-level player.

STay focused on these 3 games - that's the issue. he's looked like a nobody this year, so far, and has not performed at even a TAM level player. Heber is a TAM level player. I'm not saying Medina is amazing. All I'm saying is his effort and performance is better than what we saw last year and that MAYBE he'll improve as he gains confidence and earns his DP status. His numbers early last 2018 were pretty good. If he can regain that form, I'd be pretty happy.

In either case, we can ill afford to have two DPs, both starting, both performing at below a TAM level player when we have TAM quality talent (Taty, Isi) on the bench.

Medina's had some good quality in the first two games as well, some good shots. You can give your 'MLS 1.0' excuse again, but the same exact argument applies to Mitrita - he has looked 'dangerous' etc. against an 'MLS 1.0' team.
At the same time, Medina has also had some pretty bad moments, but there have also been some good ones in there. Same goes for Mitri.

Why are you both arguing Mitrita when the focus is Medina??? Mitrita has played three games this year, and while I feel he hasn’t performed well, he’s still got 1g/2a = 1pt/game. So how exactly do either of you still want to compare his production against Medina, because if you’re gonna argue a guy with 1 pt/game is under performing compared to another player with zilch, then we can just stop now because you’re not adhering to the laws of math.

The point that you're obviously missing is that there's no point criticizing Medina for 2 games 10 mins without also discussing Mitri. Both are DPs and both are underperforming for a DP.

Mitri has one goal and two assists. Let's look at those. The goal was a rebound off a pk. Not exactly any brilliance on his part. His two assists were off corners, which again, not exactly any brilliance on his part. Let Medina take the corners and switch spots with Mitri on that pk and those numbers could very well be Medina's.

On the whole in live play, neither have performed to any high level. If that one goal and two corner kick assists is enough for you to rate him so highly then we must be watching very different games.

Your logic is nonsensical. Couda woulda shoulda but Medina didn’t. How can you argue that zero points is performing better than 3? Seriously, answer that before retorting with anything else, because games aren’t won unless points are scored and Medina hasn’t logged a thing but a big goose egg.

If that goal was so easy, why wasn’t somebody else there to score instead of Mitrita? He still had to have the instinct to pounce on it. Same with a corner - he still has to deliver it, and as we’ve seen for years, this club doesn’t score off corners, so logic says he’s doing something right that others haven’t been able to do. And even when his corners haven’t resulted in goals, many have connected with the CBs who’ve put solid shots on net just missing on multiple occasions- that is also a step up over past years.

Lol. Ok. So let me get this straight. Since we scored on a corner, that means Mitri is doing something right that others have not done, not that we're attacking it differently or anything. It's all down to Mitri and his service. I would argue Isi has the best corner and free kick service on the team. But we don't always score off his service.. so I guess by your logic, he must suck at them.

Anyway, you're clearly all in on Mitri. I'm not all in on either him nor Medina. I think both need to improve drastically. All I've been saying is that in my opinion Medina seems to be putting in more effort tracking back to defend and he's playing better than last year. I don't think Mitri has impressed either and I stand by my assessments of both.

You are fantastic at putting words in other people’s mouth and utilizing the straw man.

Gentleman. Maybe we are all a bit frustrated because our best DP is awful at taking penalties and he is getting the call to the stripe, our second best DP spends more time pouting then tracking back on defense and is predictable with the ball (and seems to have no left foot) and when our third DP is on the field it often seems like we are playing a man down.

Somehow, people (even the”experts) think we can win the East.

Let’s see who shows up to play and what happens this coming week. Hopefully some magic happens. (Or maybe we’ll realize why Dome jumped ship)

Go NYCFC!

imagine if the next time we're able to sign DPs, we actually get high caliber DPs.. a Vela quality DP would be great, but i'd be perfectly happy with maxi quality across the board. we'd be scary good.

I’m getting more and more upset that the club didn’t use the 1 time buyout or transfer Medina this offseason. If Mitri washes out we‘re going to be stuck with at least one of them next season if we can’t find a transfer partner for a bad contract.
