2020 Roster Discussion

I forgot how close they are too. Dortmund and Mönchengladbach are only about an hours drive or two hour train ride apart. Easy to meetup and hangout on off days during the season for them. Also nice to have a few decent cities between them to have a mini tour of Germany's Rhein region.

Gives me hope that Scally will do really well in Germany and then we'll have two former NYCFC/academy players in the USMNT lineup :)

Ian Joy has some breaking news to share tonight in the pregame. Player-related? Were some rumors about Larin returning to MLS.
Ronny Deila went after his favorite third string striker from the Norwegian League (Eliteserien), who has been unsigned for 3 years, to cover the striker position in Heber's absence. Said striker averaged a xG differential of -2.3 when on the field, so he will slot right in and do well alongside Medina.

(*intense sarcasm*)

A few nuggets from the Athletic/Sam Stejskal piece on the Mitriță transfer:
  • "NYCFC sporting director David Lee told The Athletic that Mitrita came to the club a few weeks ago requesting a move abroad due to a personal matter."
  • "It took a couple of weeks, but eventually, Al-Ahli came into the picture."
  • My biggest takeaway was at the end: "Don’t expect a new signing this season, though. Lee wouldn’t rule out a new acquisition entirely, but noted that any new player would have to obtain a visa and then quarantine before he could take the field. That process would likely take three or four weeks, meaning any signing probably wouldn’t be able to even train with his new teammates until after the end of the regular season."

yea ronny basically alluded to the same thing about signing a new player in the current environment. it's understandable but that is assuming we sign someone from overseas. I don't see why we can't try to find a backup forward within MLS. It won't be a like for like replacement of mitrita of course, but we just need a backup to give Taty a rest or in case of injury. Shame we didn't snatch up Toye before montreal.

holy cow...

Sands is going to break literally every bone in his body...

Not to be a stinker - but this might be a blessing in disguise as it will force Ring back into the Dmid role, unless Ronny takes a chance on starting someone else in Sands place.. acevedo hopefully? but he'll probably stick rocha in there.

I like. too bad he'll sit on the bench like acevedo under Ronny. At least he and acevedo will be best buds?

I honestly don't get the hype about Acevedo. It's like the Jonathan Lewis situation all over again, where the less he plays, the more the legend seems to grow. At least Lewis sometimes scored when he came on, rather than indulge in some amateur volleyball practice in our own penalty area.

I do not think the hype is that we think he's the greatest d-mid and we need to play him. I think the hype is we have heard many great things from his time in uruguay, and with his limited minutes, he has shown a lot of potential. I think those of us pushing for acevedo to get more time aren't thinking he's the greatest player ever. At least for me, I want the kid to have the CHANCE to show us how good he is and whether all the hype we heard about him previously is really true.

I think it's different than with Lewis where I think many of us were content with him being a super sub.
