2020 Roster Discussion

Has he shown a lot of potential? I've read a lot of glowing Outfield articles but I honestly don't remember anything he's done other than give away that penalty. I don't think we've really had the luxury this season of taking away minutes from Parks or Sands just to give him a go.

I honestly don't get the hype about Acevedo. It's like the Jonathan Lewis situation all over again, where the less he plays, the more the legend seems to grow. At least Lewis sometimes scored when he came on, rather than indulge in some amateur volleyball practice in our own penalty area.

Fans of every team in every sport have an obsession with young players who supposedly don't get enough time on the field. Poku, Lewis, Acevedo just a few of the guys on the list here.

And that's exactly the same reason we've had injury after injury. We did have that opportunity... it's called resting players and not playing them for 5 matches in a row

there's a highlight reel somewhere with all his touches from a particular game where he had a decent number of minutes as a sub. he was uruguayan young player of the year or something like that. there's definitely potential there. from my eye, he reads the game fairly well and his has decent vision. He's not an enforcer type but seems to show he's willing to make a hard tackle.

I definitely think there's potential there. Enough to take starting minutes from Parks or Sands on a regular basis? Definitely way too soon to tell. If Sands never had the opportunity given to him by Dome to show his stuff, we would be talking about him right now and how he deserves more minutes.

As Shwafta said, there have been plenty of opportunities to give him more playing time or even a start since we are in a heavily congested schedule right now and our bench is depleted.

BTW, the report is back up on MLS soccer that CFG has purchased 20-year old Santiago Rodriguez from Nacional in Uruguay's 1st division. 10 goals and 15 assists in 47 games. Has represented Uruguay in U20 and U23. Looks like a good prospect but wouldn't come until 2021.

That and as a defensive Mid he shouldn’t be scoring the way Lewis did when he came on as or super sub. Ronny just confuses the shit out of me. He claims he doesn’t want to tinker. He loves Ring on the wing. Yet he put ring back in midfield and brought Mata up to LW and played a very defensive team rather than simply slotting Cacha into Sand’s role. Doing this could have prevented the goal as it would of left Gudi off the pitch. Im not hyping Cacha up. I haven’t seen much of him. If you don’t think he’s good enough or needs to prove himself via sub appearances then you should still be upset. He’s on a TAM contract. He’s either the real deal and Ronny is stubborn because he didn’t actually want him or he’s not good and our GM/Scouts suck.

I don't mind Mata at left wing from time to time, but yes, I would rather have him at LB instead of Gudi with someone else at LW.

Of course, the numbers up top are getting thin. Maybe once Maxi is back, Medina can slot wide on one side. And - even without Maxi, it might be preferable to play Keaton at 10 and have Ring and Cacha as the other two mids.

cacha is not his signing so hes not gonna play much of him since he doesnt know him. GMS he knows so he plays him even though we all think he should not be getting minutes. thats my take on it

from what i read in some Nacional fan accounts, they dont like the guy. he didnt "live up" to expectations. and doesnt produce. i dont know how much they expected out of a 19/20 yr old but they were not satisfied. some articles there saying he may go to Girona

I wouldn't put that goal solely on Gudi. Yeah, he got smoked on that one, but it was a great move by Ruan that I felt would have beaten most LB's in the league.

Where the breakdown on the goal really happened was between Callens and Ring. When Mueller got deep into the box, Ring pointed him out and Callens started to mark him. But then Ruan got down to the end line, which Callens didn't expect, and he broke off of Mueller in order to make himself big and block any driven cross across the face of goal. But then nobody picked up Mueller and he smartly broke his run off to find a pocket of space and Ruan picked him out perfectly.

You can see Ring and Callens kind of yell at each other immediately after the goal that one or the other was supposed to mark him.

I think the responsibility of marking Mueller there probably fell on Ring as he should have switched on when Callens switched off. But its hard to tell if that was communicated from Callens to Ring at all.

Medina probably could have done better at closing space with Mueller, though he possibly was concerned about a cross back away from the end line.

just watched the latest in the mini docu series. heber is seen walking around in it casually with no visible limp or any kind of support around his knee.

shouldn't he be in a brace or something??? season ending injury sounds like it should at least make you limp a bit

He is - I, too, noticed what you did so I took a closer look... if you look, you can see he's limping, but also his right leg has some sort of support wrapped around it. He didn't break a bone, but tore a muscle which doesn't require a cast.

ah you're right. there is a brace on his knee. and he didn't tear a muscle, he tore a ligament.

Isi confirms on his instagram story that he tested positive and is quarantining. I wished him a speedy recovery and I'm sure he'd love the support from everyone :)

Nick Saban tested positive early in the week then negative later in the week and was able to coach on the sidelines. Looks like MLS is following protocols of any positive player has to quarantine for 14 days.

That’s a bit odd to me. He may have set that timetable because that’s the average infection timeline. So ISI might have tested negative one day then the next two days had positive tests confirming an active case. The timetable given might be based on their expectation for recovery and subsequent negative test. My younger brother tested positive last Monday. My parents and sister interacted with him on Monday and took a test as well. They were negative as if Friday and we took our vacation with my brother staying home. We got a call from Florida department of health stating they still need to quarantine until next Monday (14 day exposure period). If Saban coached Florida it would of been interesting to see what the decision would have been and if he’d be forced to quarantine for a full 14 day period.

The belief on Saban is that it was a false positive since he had negative results the two days after the positive result.

In some places, two consecutive negative tests is considered as important - or even more important - than 14 days symptom free.

Wonder when Isi's last test was and if he'll be tested again before 14 days after that positive test.
