2020 Schedule Thread

Yankee Stadium in February you say? I'm ready.

Not in sky blue as far as I can tell, and perhaps now is the time to start saving up for one.

For real, though -- if we ever get home games in February, those games would be absolutely brutal.

I was at Yankee Stadium when it hosted NHL games in January one year. The bleachers were literally so cold my jaw was locking up and I couldn't even talk. They had two days in the 20's for highs, and that ballpark is absolutely miserable in cold weather. I want absolutely nothing to do with going to a sporting event at Yankee Stadium before May. NYCFC really should start its season with no home games before the middle of March. Anything before that and you run the risk of brutal weather.

What are people's view of the 7 PM time for weekeday games? I personally feel as if 7:30 PM or 8 PM would make things a lot easier for people, even for TV times.

I agree. 7pm is best for baseball, but given that Soccer is a more manageable 2 hour event, a later start is much more practical.

Spoken like a person with no kids....

adds an extra hour to the babysitter bill for those of us with kids.

No start time is perfect for everyone. With the exception of summertime I'm probably not taking my kids to many weekday matches anyway, so when I go my wife is with the kids and they are all in bed by 9 either way. The later start gives many people time to get home and have dinner with their kids and still go to the game.

I like the 7:30 start generally. Gives me more time to get out of the office and sit in traffic. Wife doesn’t love it. Makes for a late night for my son.

Do you work and live in the city? Because even with an 8pm start time, if you work until 6, it’s near impossible to subway home, eat, and then subway back to YS before 8pm. If the match starts at 7pm, it’s possible to go with my wife and get home at a decent hour while limiting the extended babysitter bill. My daughter isn’t old enough to go to a night match, but a 7pm start allows a slightly older child to watch it and then fall asleep on the way home as opposed to their body wanting to crash at halftime. That would seem to allow more people to attend than a later start time.

In the 1970s when baseball games lasted 2.5 hours, Yankee games started at 8 pm.
I favor 7:30 myself, but 7 is fine. I wouldn't want 8 pm.

I work and live in the city and generally work past 6, so 730 is usually better for me than 7. As someone who also gets up way too early to go to the gym, however....

I like 7pm. it means the game is over latest 9:30 if something goes wrong, and that means I can make my train home from penn station. 8pm, like the liverpool game, meant I missed my last train home and had to go to a different station.

With my work schedule I tend to arrive at Yankee stadium around 7:05 or 7:10. I prefer the 7:30 game times to allow enough time to park, walk to the stadium, get through security, and get to my seat without having missed 10-15 minutes of the match. It's minimal but the 7:30 game time is so much better, at least for me.

7:30 would also work from my perspective, so I agree that it could be a better time. I wonder if STH put this in their complaints for weekday matches?

Well, you can take out the going home to eat part. I would imagine most of us don’t do that and eat the crap at the stadium.
