My price stayed the same but I feel the enjoyment has taken a hit. Yeah we win games, but the atmosphere is stereotypical of how American soccer is viewed elsewhere. They keep saying they want NYC to be one of the great soccer cities. It will never be that. It's not even that great of a sports city in general because of different origins. Maybe my heart isn't in it as much as it was. I've been following Juventus for 20+ years and fly out yearly, see a game and visit family. I'm 100% emotionally invested in them. Besides going to the original cosmos games as a kid, I never got into U.S. soccer other than the national team. I didn't care about the Metro Stars or the Red Bulls, even though I've been to some games. It was different though with NYCFC. Being a part of it from the beginning meant something. I was finally excited about going and watching American soccer. I listened to all the selling points and bought into it. I was hooked from Day 1. We had Villa. We had Lampard which yes was a cluster at first and landed Pirlo, which was past his prime two years earlier, but nevertheless never thought that was possible. The stadium had energy the first 2 seasons. I had slowly started to feel that emotional connection simmering. I had no problem investing my money and energy, because I was told by the club that they were going to be a "big club". Today though, even though I have only ever heard of Maxi, I like some of the other players. This isn't about supporting the team, which I will, it's about whether or not it's worth the time, money and energy to commit to going to the games. Does anyone get excited about seeing Heber or marvel at the skills of Ofori?? Not to pick on them, just using an example. Maybe this team just lacks that personality or that je ne sais quoi. I don't care what their record is, they aren't exciting. They don't have anyone with a personality on this team. It's getting borderline lame in the entertainment end of things. The fact that we play in a empty feeling baseball stadium sucks too. Play-wise they are up there in MLS standards, so that's good. I know, you all say support the cloth, not the player, but one has to be attached to that cloth first. It's not about the money, but I like my money. I'd pay more if they warranted it by their signings. Based on what the roster looks like, I should be paying less now. Maybe it's the start of European football that has me judging or maybe I'm just being a diva, but I think I may throw in the towel and just pick a few games to go to a year. I'll come back when their mantra "Our mission is to build New York City into one of the soccer capitals of the world" means something.
