2021 Concacaf Champions League

lol. TFC set piece defending is atrocious. "yes, you can have ball side and goal side of me.. go ahead!" lol

chapman as the VAR in this game just saved TFC from 2 pens.. 1st one.. probably either way, but 2nd one.. definitely a pk

aye... columbus...

gonna be tough going to mexico with no cushion and down on agg

Last night’s results were what I expected with Philly and Cruz Azul advancing but I’m hoping for some excitement in both of tonight’s games. Unfortunately for Columbus, they’ll be without Zelarayan (yellow card accumulation/suspension)

That yellow given to him in the last match was atrocious.

That was only 9 minutes in, so I don't think foul accumulation is in the cards there. I didn't watch the whole thing, but I've also heard he didn't have an adverse reaction towards the ref that was yellow-worthy.

he stepped on his foot, accidental though. id probably just call foul but maybe not yellow. ref probably thought it was with intent though i would not of agreed.

I don't know. I realize determining intent is such an incredibly subjective ordeal, but I'm really struggling to see how anyone could determine intent there.

They're both stepping at the same time, so there's no way he could know exactly where the opposing player's foot is going to land in order to step on it. ETA: Zelarayan actually begins his step before the opponent.

I'm as far from leaning into conspiracies, putting too much blame on refs, etc., but this play really has me leaning towards tin-foil hat the ref knew Zelarayan was already on a yellow (and I hate leaning this way).

no, hes slightly late. again, i dont see it as intentional at all, it was accidental. just call the foul and thats it. Of course if this is like the third time sure a yellow is perhaps warranted.

generally concacaf refs ( including MLS ) are not great we all know this. seeing games in this region for over a decade, CONCACAF is not out to get anyone. its just the quality in refs is just bad and there is no improvement, which is frustrating.

so its just a gamble every game who gets screwed, i mean olimpia was literally stepping on Club America players, fracturing players foot and headbutting head on head fouls and all that was given a couple of yellows no reds.
