2021 Roster Discussion

Agree with the general sentiment about Gary. He's a hard worker, but $275k/year as of the 2019 salary tables is way too much. Honestly I'd say he's only worth about half that as a backup to harass tired opponents at the end of the game.

Mata is good for a couple of real bone-headed decisions per season, but he's a perfectly serviceable MLS left back and I don't see how we really get someone better, particularly given that his backup is Gudi.

While we're all hopeful for a couple of good DPs to come in, I'm pretty nervous that Covid will make it a lot harder to attract top-level talent. How many players will be willing to either relocate their families under quarantine conditions or come by themselves and be away from their families for months? Hard to predict, but I think we have to adjust our expectations for this offseason to bring in real talent.

so since barraza is our back up, does this mean we draft another GK like we tend to do.

How different it would have been if that butterfly didnt flap its wings injuring the dude in practice before the WC where CR made a nice run.

i dont think he was even in contention for brazil WC was he? i think i recall he debut in like 2015 or so.

Mata was low-key an elite MLS leftback last year just overshadowed by how good Anton did last year. He made big improvements in terms of his consistency especially on the defensive side of the ball. Way less of those bone-headed decisions.

this. We had the best FB pairing in the league and it wasn’t close for me

i thought he was referring to the 2014 where CR did make a nice run. i guess i didnt catch the sarcasm.

I was referring to Russia where he missed out with the injury and confused it with their run in Brazil. He still would have been able to showcase himself and we sell him off after that summer. I'm 99.99% positive the GAM we would have received would have purchased the player that won us the MLS Cup. Or at least Mata wouldn't have been on the roster to lose it for us with a goof....

Here’s the deal - go get two lethal wingers. Our defense is really good if healthy. We don’t need any help there.
Get 25 goals from two née players. That’s what we need

Sands is back. so our D-mid position is fine.

Per the announcement, his option was exercised for 2021. So he's back in that sense I guess, though that does not mean he won't be transferred. But until we get a transfer announcement, probably on Instagram from his second cousin, he's back.
