2021 Roster Discussion

i'm confident that barraza is our solid #2. we have always had 3 keepers on the roster (caldwell was our 3rd for awhile) but our #1 and #2 were almost always pretty set.

we always have but like you said its pretty obvious who is 2/3. here im not sure so i think it will be open competition. The thing is that the number 2 will definitely get minutes because Johnson will get called up to something, gold cup, WCQ, Nations league.

i'm all for healthy competition! it'll make everyone better! luis had a bad game vs a tough opponent. still, whenever he had the ball at his feet, he seemed rock solid and that was very comforting from a fan point of view. no idea what this other guy is like though.

Seems like a high fee for a middling 600K market value 500K salary type guy, with a meh resume. Suggests that they are viewing him as a big piece rather than a depth add which is worrisome.

we paid $4M for medina to be a DP, does this type of transfer really shock you?

Must mean they see something in him. While some of our moves haven't worked, a lot of the 'middle of the pack' moves have definitely worked in the past.

I'm wondering if the team is gearing up for a sands/tayvon/haak/Jasson link up in the middle or something lol

Not sure if this report is accurate but even the suggestion of paying him 1million his second year puts him way up on our salary list which suggests they see him as a key piece for whatever reason.

is it a definite 1mil, or an incentive 1mil? But you are correct, I wonder how this is working

They're also signing him to a TAM contract, for what that's worth. That puts him on the same level with Taty and Isi, which probably makes some sense. As long as he's not a DP, I think it's a sign of their ambition that they're paying $2.8M for a guy that isn't even a DP. We should be excited by the idea that they're this willing to spend for a guy that isn't a DP.

This kinda adds to my theory that they're holding off on DP stuff right now because of the oddity with Mitri.

My point is that Taty has a market value of 4.4 million (let's just use TM for ease) and a salary of I believe under 300K. We are throwing a lot of TAM at a guy with an underwhelming resume who now has a market value of 600K and we are going to pay him many multiples of Taty's salary. The hope is that the club has an eye for underperforming talent with upside and his output will be greater than a Taty. As with all of your posts, I am always hopeful that you are right and I like your take better than mine!

I just watched the Sands interview they put out ... man, the kid has put on a TON of muscle this offseason.

even last year it was noticeable, Haak too although i think with him it was just him still growing.

Are you basing his worth on the transfermarkt value? I don't think those numbers correlate to much at all. They always seem well below the market.

Yes FWIW. So Taty should be higher than 4.4 million and this guy 660K? Doesn't seem right re Taty and no idea about this guy other than he's a player performing meh for Emelec.
