Not sure if this goes best in this thread, or eSports, or the Social Media thread, but our fellow NYCFC fan(s) in Brazil are not happy. Placing it here because it seems to be a reaction to the Cervi news.

Yeah, it's new. Probably doesn't mean anything. I would expect a lot of moves given the players who have gone, and 2 open DP slots, but I doubt this is really related.I don't remember them having a page set up like this before? if the dude didnt want to come here then not much can be done. ATL/LAFC are good are getting players as DP straight from south america, this was not the case.
Lol if you really think a player having a choice between <any MLS team> and <Celta de Vigo> would choose <any MLS team>, I don't know what you've been smoking but I want some
to add on to this, the current coach at celta is coudet. he coached cervi when they were both in rosario central in argentina a few years ago. it makes sense he wants to play for him.
That's the thing, surely the club did their due diligence to see if Cervi was interested in coming. Why are we making offers to players who are looking elsewhere?
...Maybe they sent out multiple offers to multiple players and this is just the only one we heard rumors on? Also, it's possible that he didn't know if he was going to get any offers from other places at the time? Who knows.
we dont know timing of this but normally you have to go thru the team first as you cant negotiate with player directly. benfica probably accepted deal and when player was notified he said nope. we also dont know if celta offer came in after ours and he said he prefers that.
We also don't know for sure that the club offered Cervi. There is just an unconfirmed report out there about it.
Also consider things like this happen all the time around transfers on both sides. Rumored signings that have a low likelihood of going through can 1) drive up the price of the player to be signed and 2) can possibly influence other players looking to sign at NYCFC (i.e., reduce leverage from a different player we are looking to sign by demonstrating we are willing to sign another talented player at that same position, etc.)

The translated version of the article posted above announcing Cervi's decision indicates Celta wants a loan with option to buy, but Benfica is holding out for a straight sale now. I don't know (nor much care) how it will resolve, but inevitably someone else (besides NYCFC) won't get what they want. It's how these things work. All any club or player can do is use their best instincts to get what they want, and sometimes it happens and sometimes not.
WRT NYCFC specifically, I'd say we're seeing evidence of a trend of not getting our targets, but I'm going to wait until this window closes to reach a conclusion. I'll freak out about it then, probably.
Lol, what's funny is that in round 1 they were talking about this guy for NYCFC in pick 17. It made it all the way to round 2 for him, so either he's not very good, or just no one needs a LB/CB,
the dude was being mentioned since like pick 8. teams do need a LB ( at least based on the stream i was half paying attention to) no one picked him though. they might keep him for depth maybe.
EDIT: so apparently he has a twin, so it may have been the other dude that was projected to go higher and he did. lol oops

Yeah, he was mentioned for a LONG time. why wasn't he chosen? There must be something we as the public are missing here. Hopefully he's good and then we sign Derosario and have Di Rosa and De Rosario pairing
i just edited my post. he has a twin brother who actually went higher. i think that was the guy they all were referring to no?
