2021 Roster Discussion

Something that we haven’t spoken about yet. In a recent interview, Lee discussed the possibility of the new salary rules allowing us to take in Man City loanees

I guess that would be a summer thing once the mothership figures out their loanee plans if someone could play at a higher level club/league.

Sorry. Kayky staying in Manchester is the rumor. His teammate Metinho is the one who will

Curious as to what is different about this ruleset as opposed to the agreement that was in place regarding MCFC loanees at the start of the club. I can't recall the details of the original rules (we may have never been told) but I do remember there was something in place that allowed loans of young MCFC players. We used it year 1 with Facey and Angelino and then never seemed to use it again. I've always wondered if CFG decided they didn't like something about it for either player development or our roster construction or if MLS shut them down but I always found it strange that we stopped doing loans like that after year 1. Neither Facey nor Angelino had a major impact but more players like them could have been helpful at times in areas where we have lacked depth in past seasons.

Also, Montreal had some kind of partnership with a Serie A club, I think Bologna, and they were bringing a couple loanees every season. So there must be some way to work it out.

I have no idea about new rules covering loans from affiliated clubs.

In the past, I understood the rule to be that for loan deals with related entities the loaning team cannot subsidize the player's salary, because that would be a salary cap avoidance cheat. I think that acquisition costs paid by the loaning team can be kept on the books of the loaning team and not charged to the MLS club. If correct, this is a partial, legal cap avoidance strategy. So we had to pay the salaries for Facey, Angelino and Herrera and I think that any acquisition costs paid by MCFC was kept off our books.

There also were rumors about a possible special deal regarding player loans when CFG paid its then record expansion fee to enter MLS, but I've never seen anything specific to either back that up or evidence it was used.

there is. Red bull themselves do it now getting loans from RB Salzburg. even atlanta united signed Gutman and loaned him right away to Red Bulls, so there is a way.

There isn't anything specific about loans but this is what has been in the roster rules and regulations page for a couple of season: https://www.mlssoccer.com/about/roster-rules-and-regulations

Related Party Transactions
All terms of any arrangements among an MLS club, a related party club, and a player to be signed to MLS shall be fully disclosed to the League. A player joining an MLS club from a related party club will calculate his Salary Budget Charge based on the compensation he is receiving from his related party club contract and any acquisition fees associated with his signing. The League will make a final determination, in its sole discretion, as to the Salary Budget Charge of such a player.

He’s just letting everyone know he’s Team Jamie Tartt.

Related, I wonder how it came to be that Man City was ( I think) the only real team shown (via actors) in the series. Others were discussed, but I don’t think we see any other “players” in uniform except for MC and the fictional Richmond.

Crystal Palace was also shown in Season 1...
