While I suppose you might not be to happy with other team´s supporters writing here, Ill bugger off soon enough;).

Since both Tinnerholm and Berget have played in my club for the last years, Iv seen about a 100 games each with them, so I know them fairly well, and they are frankly two of my favorites.

Tinnerholm have always been great defensively, and always been running like crazy(the main simularity between Berget and Tinnerholm is that neither seem to ever get tired), the last season he got quite alot better offensively aswell. Not in that he havent always run along up on the side, but this last season he really improved his aim when aiming for the offensive players heads in front of the goal, and even done a few goals himself.

He´s mostly been playing RB, and thats where he is the best, but since our reserve RB was alot better then our reserve LB, he also played abit of LB. He did ok there, but not as good as RB.

But he´s a gem who never stops running, and while everyone makes mistakes occasionally, he never really lost his side, including the games vs bigger european teams. He dont get that many assists, but if soccer counter assists the way hockey does, he would have alot. He often makes the second to last pass before a goal.

This video is quite nice - althou you´ll haveto ignore the swedish part;). Think Berget might feature in it once or twice aswell.

How come they are leaving on free transfers? Did they not want to sign a new contract or did the club not offer them one?

They seem to be 2 of your better players so it seems strange that they are leaving for nothing.

When a player leaves on a Transfer, they get a percentage of the Transfer Fee with the bulk of the $$ going to the club.

When a Player leaves on a Free Transfer, the Player negotiates a Fee directly much like a sign-on Fee. Since the new club isn’t paying the old club, they can afford to give the player more (as either a one-time bonus or higher wages), while still making out better than having paid the transfer fee. Because of this, many players see out their contracts to cash in with direct negotiations.

I wouldn’t look at a Free Transfer as necessarily a bad omen about their worth to a club.

Its pretty much as written above, they were both offered contracts, but simular to the ones they had already, in Tinnerholms case more cash(the best paid players in sweden tend to be somewhere around 30-40 k $ a month(before taxes wich cuts it in half, no idea what your non-dp players earn) and well, he´s never played in any team outside of sweden. He also stated that he thought his chances to get selected for the national team more likely increased if he played outside of the swedish league.

He spoke very highly of Viera even if he at the time of the interview I read hadent met him yet - they spoke on the phone and he was impressed over how deeply Viera had checked up on him - he stated that it wasent just the cliches and good player, etc, but Viera actually already before Tinnerholm had signed the contract spoke of wich strengths he liked about him as a player in detail, and that played in aswell in choosing NY.

In Bergets case, he would likely face a decrease in salary in Malmö, as there is a taxreduction for the first 3 years for foreign workers thats specifically qualified, (its meant for scientists, but applies for athletes). Since it would no longer apply for him, he would get a higher tax and its unlikely Malmö would be able to compensate. I havent actually read any interview about why he picked NY so cant say as much there.

Also, we sold another player to MLS last summer(Yoshimar Yotun, Orlando), possible they spoke to him about the league aswell.

If they suck, I’m blaming you.

Cheers, Geoff. Appreciate the posts.

So, in a wave of excitement I decided we NYCFC fans need more player-related tongue in cheek merchandise. I took it upon myself to create this shirt, in honor of our marauding Swedish RB. Can be purchased HERE. (Comes in men's and women's t-shirts, as well as a hoodie option). Guess which Swedish company was used as an influence...
