Atlanta (Away) - Postmatch

We were bad

Atlanta I reluctantly admit are really good

The lineup without Heber and Parks starting did us no favors

Mitri is mediocre as all hell he can score sometimes offers little else

GMS might need more time to incorporate but I'm less impressed with him in his longer showings than I was with his initial cameos

Tatty does a lot of good but could finish at a higher rate (This though applies to 90 percent of MLS players)

I'm glad I started the morning with Rangers drubbing Hibs. I hate to admit it but I care slightly less one the Euro leagues are underway to split my attention /allegiance /passion

As I was driving with my mom back from the Hamptons after this match, the front passenger tire gave an alert that the pressure was low. It dropped down to 16 psi before we stopped as a gas station and put more air in. We put in 46 psi. By the time we got home, which was only 25 more minutes of driving, it was down to 9 psi. The car obviously needs a new tire.

It was a crap day all around.

And I still believe that Josef Martinez fouled Maxime Chanot on his header. Martinez elbow goes right into Chanot's neck before contact is made on the ball. Unacceptable refereeing.

I agree with you that it's probably a foul, but I'm also perfectly OK with the attacking player getting the benefit of the doubt there. You're going to have contact in the box in those moments. Josef is impossible to defend because he's big, strong, and doesn't back down from those moments.

These are the games that I just want to forget. These are also the games in which I noticed I am spoiled by top euro teams who consistently win away games and show up at big games.

Maybe one day, nycfc will be like LAFC is, at the moment.

On to the next one...

LAFC drop points with big games too. They have yet to win against a galaxy team that really isn't that good. I'm hoping they route the NJRB tonight.

Our away record has been fairly good this year. The NJRB game should have been a draw at worst. Toronto was before we got Heber and had some kind of identity. and RSL was not our best XI. Even tonight was not our best XI. Parks should have played over Ofori. Heber could get his rest, but I would have played GMS over mitri all day. The difference in work ethic is monumental.

It was a foul not because they both went up for the ball and there was contact, but because Martinez came FLYING IN from the side. Challenging for a header is fine if both players go directly up, but if one comes flying in to cause contact prior to winning the ball, it should be a foul no matter what.

Chanot went straight up for his header and Martinez came flying in from a running start. There's no way Chanot can get higher and win that battle in mid-air.

Dome was furious with his team after the game. This is a good listen.

I agree with him 100%. I was saying in the chat constantly that we need to slow the game down and keep possession. But we kept playing long ball after long ball. Dome calls out his center backs and his player's lack of courage. It's 100% on point. We played with zero passion today aside from a few players and a few plays. Many were caught walking after losing the ball. Many were caught jogging after a runner or chasing down a ball. It's inexcusable.

The moment that pissed me off the most was toward the end of the game where Mata is jogging over to take a throwin and he's SMILING. I mean, WTF? What do you have to smile about? You're getting dominated and made to look like a fool by Gressel. You're the reason most of the goals against us have been happening lately and you have the audacity to smile mid-game?

Dome even says he talked to Mata to close down Gressel more but apparently it went in one ear and out the other....

Him, Medina, Mitri - they all need to go in the summer. We need to spend some money for a solid left back and get Ribery as a free agent DP.

Just like when Martinez ran and jumped into David Villa's attempted bicycle kick in the playoffs. The foul was called on Villa. Referees and the league just like to stroke Martinez's game and ego. It's atrocious. He wouldn't have performances anywhere close to this in a better league. And VAR in Germany or England would kill his goal numbers where they are brave.

What I hate about Atlanta is that they are good AND get help from the referees. The Villa bicycle is one of many examples. The absolutely threw Maxi around like a rag doll in the playoffs last year with impunity and moved the ball up like 15 yards on a free kick to score... I’m not doing anything here but venting...
Kudos to SJ for giving us a chance. As bad as the rest of the team may have been there was actually a chance to leave with a point before the final whistle.
One more vent- Mitri Out. I don’t think he can play in Dome’s system or maybe any MLS teams system.

Mitri just simply doesn't have the work ethic to play in any of the top 10 leagues. He should have stayed in his low level league where he was. The CFG scouts forgot to mention that part.

and the RB's are taking it to LAFC. argh. i was pretty happy when LAFC went up 2-0 but now i'm just disgruntled again

The most frustrating part of this game was how deferential we were to Atlanta. They're a great team with outstanding attackers. But we're pretty damn good, too. We need to be more uncomfortable to play against. In the big games, we seem to play too scared to make a mistake that we become deferential. We should be playing with the swagger Atlanta was playing with.

You can’t play with swagger when leaking like a sieve on defense.... kinda ruins any mojo.

that's exactly why DOme said his team needs to be more brave. even Ring was saying they need to have more courage. we lose it in big games. for whatever reason. but having a leaky defense, like ulrich said, will make any defender look for long ball before playing short purely out of fear.

I didn’t think Sands fouled Martínez. I went as best I could frame by frame. It looked to me like Sands actually made a play on the ball and got a piece of while Martínez essentially juked himself to the turf.9DC73713-4F13-4C62-ABE4-E9F50ED426F5.jpegBDE232FC-98C5-4A69-A3B8-E4656CE87677.jpeg

Pity dives. Atlanta dives. I said this in the chat. Should have gone to video review. Atlanta gets all the calls they need over the course of the season.

Well.. at least the red bulls lost too. But at least they went to LAFC to play. Sadly, we did not go to Atlanta to play.

Just made the mistake of watching MDC with Dweibe and Co. I think MDC stands for Martinez D*#%sucking Committee. They just wanted the foul called against Chanot to give Martinez the chance at a hat trick. I expected some kind of impartial commentary by Carr but that’s where my naïveté comes into play.
Maybe if NYCFC were packing 60,000 bodies into the seats of a new stadium MLS would give instructions to their employees to be boosters for our team as well.

Mata isn't very good. Neither is Mitri. Majority of our attacking passes aren't leading, recipient always needs to slow up. Maxi complains about everything. It's annoying. We aren't as good as Atlanta, not far off, but not as good.

I just saw the penalty call for the first time and I also thought Sands got a play on the ball, and that Pity embellished the fall (duh).

So atlanta’s two goals came from an elbow to the head and a penalty dive. Ok there.

Hey does someone have video of the LGP potential dogso in the 20th minute?

I'd say check out the instant replay MLS releases on mondays but who knows if that will be one of the plays "reviewed". Even if it is, they'll probably say it wasn't DOGSO cause they're ATL blowhards.

YO. I knew I recognized that name. lol. Yea - if we had a new stadium packing it every weekend, we'd probably get more cred. But there's no way we'd be packing 60K even if we had a brand spanking new state of the art stadium. I think we'd struggle to get consistent 25K. In any case, I think the biggest negative against us is that we don't have a big name signing or a player who is breaking records. We need either one or the other to get noticed by MLS cause otherwise, we just aren't marketable. We're on the same level of RLS of marketability until we get a big name player.

Ribery is available as a free agent - can we sign him and dump Mitri or Medina? or both?

Ring - i don't know how he has become such a poor passer of the ball. I don't remember him ever being this bad but this whole season, he's passed to nobody or the opposition more than a teammate. and that leads me to my last gripe...

In his post match interview, Ring asked for courage to try to not always play the safest option. I wonder if this has something to do with him trying more adventurous balls himself, and hence more wayward passes. I haven't noticed anything turning into worse in his basic passing game.
