FC Cincinnati vs. New York City Football Club
Nippert Stadium
Saturday, August 17th 7:30 PM ET
YES

NYCFC takes their first trip to Cincinnati and play at the home of the University of Cincinnati, until FC Cincinnati builds their new soccer specific stadium.

Hope we can bounce back from the lackluster performance in ATL. ANother turf field and the first of another 3 game week.

This is our best opportunity to regain our confidence and play the way we know we can play.

Looks like we now have 4 players on notice for a suspension:
1.Chanot
2.Sweat
3.Ring
4.Taty

Heber earned himself a reduction last match. And Sean Johnson can earn one this match if he's a good boy.

After drawing 8 of our first 13 matches, we've now gone 10 matches without a draw. And 4 of our 5 losses our in our last 7 matches.

Hmm - There should be no reason any player really gets a yellow card at Cincinnati or home vs. Columbus, but consider we're playing Red Bulls in three games, do you let Chanot and Ring pickup a yellow in Cincy so they are rest on Wednesday then play on Saturday?

I can’t believe they both got 2 cards in 4 games since their suspensions.

we pick up silly yellow cards way too easily. i feel like a lot of them aren't necessary whatsoever.

i wouldn't want ring or chanot out vs. columbus but i wouldn't be mad about it. we need everyone healthy and available for the red bulls.

didn't even realize SJ had that many yellows.

Right? The only one I remember was when Zlatan choked him.

100% yes! You could make a decent argument for resting them on Wednesday anyway, may as well kill two birds with one stone while you're at it (Uhhh just don't let DisCo know that's the plan)

to be fair, I kind of always expect Ring to pick up a yellow card every other game. Since he didn't get one last, he's due.

I guess this means that Isi won't need ankle surgery. Miller at RB again and a 4-3-3 lineup with Chanot and Seb/Sands as CB pairing or all three?

how is tinnerholm dealing with leg fatigue? he had a whole game rest and prior to that he was playing every game like a beast. now one sad performance back and he's got leg fatigue? strange. and Callens is iron man... has played fewer games than chanot cause of copa america and he's the one who's tired?

I suppose if there's any game where they can get a rest, it would be this one... but I would hope Dome sends in all the wingers to give us optimal attacking power instead of trying to balance the team with ofori.

The team year in/year out suffers from a decline in form in the second half of the year, and every year I bring up the fitness side of playing people into the ground and once done it’s near impossible to get them back to peak form. At least the club this year is admitting the players are suffering from it. Not rotating Tinny has been a mistake (made each season) and the ones to watch going forward are Chanot and Maxi since they’ve logged some crazy minutes again. Callens hasn’t looked the same in a while and not sure if it’s the fatigue he’s suffering from or his left-side pairing requiring more running/cover..... next stop for the weary are injuries on tired muscles....

One game off won't offset the consistent minutes and game time he was getting.

Also, it may have to do with the turf. Due to the rubbery bounce back of the turf when running it may have had a bigger impact on their legs. The extra impact/rebound of turf may have set their legs past a threshold of soreness/fatigue they were used to post game.*

It's a game against Cincy. I'd rather they rest then against Cincy and play vs. Cbus and RBNJ. Use Cbus to get their legs back and ready to kick red bull ass.

*Not an actual scientist, just basing off when I played rec league indoor on turf for 30-40 minutes vs. playing for hours on a natural grass field. Legs always felt dead and worn playing on turf vs. grass, even if it was for a shorter period of time.

I'm almost ready for...

GMS --------- Heber ---------- Mitri
-----------Maxi
----------------------Ring
--------------Sands
Mata---------------------Miller (Rocha)
-----------Callens - Ibby
------------------SJ

Taty for Heber or GMS if they're tired
Medina for Mitri if he sucks
Parks really should get some time, maybe for Ring or Sands if we need offense.

I guess the threshold question is who do we rotate in the next two games and who is expected to play in all three? Also, for the players that rotate, which player sits Saturday and plays Wed-Sat vs. the other way around?

The pairs I can see switching in and out are:

Heber/Taty
Mitri/GMS
Maxi/Medina

Parks/Ofori
Ring/Sands

Mata/Rocha or Sweat
Tinnerholm/Miller
Callens/Rocha or Sweat
Chanot/Ibeagha

Generally, you could just pick someone from Column A and someone from Column B for this Saturday and reverse for Wednesday and be done.

The problem is that we are short one midfield player. This means either Haak or Torres get some time or 2 of the 4 guys in midfield need to play both dates.

I would love to see Haak and Torres get more time. Especially Haak. Torres has shown he's still a bit green but Haak has been awesome in his time on the field in USOC. Would love to see him get more regular minutes and against FCC or Columbus would be a great chance to make that happen.
