His most recent media call was played on Blue City Radio this week (of the voices I could recognize, Mike Anderer of BCR obviously, Glenn Crooks etc., among others) I was actually intrigued by his pragmatism. Unlike maybe some early moments with Vieira where it was super rigid, Deila seems flexible. Both because he’s only been with the team a very short time, and there’s been so much inconsistency in player minutes during preseason because of international duty and call-ups. He wants to put out the best XI possible for Leg 1 but I also think he wants to be careful about risking injuries. So if he doesn’t have the personnel to play a preferred formation or style, I think he’ll go with what works based on availability.

Also reading between the lines, I thought it means we might not see Maxi on Thursday

Certainly sounds that way. Think we're likely to see a midfield of Parks in front of Ring and Sands.

I think you might be right. Maxi and calf injuries seem to go hand in hand, but this was a while ago now. I just can't see how he is match-fit yet. I think we see something like...

---------------Heber
Medina-----------------Mitrita
--------------Parks
--------------Ring-------
^Mata------Sands----Scally^
-----Callens-------Chanot
-------------SJ

I bet we see Taty subbed in, Maybe MAxi if he can go 30 to try to get him the first half in NJ and Tinner on the right in the second half. Lots of rotation up front. We've seen Mitri drop low and I think he will to help he and Parks get free. I'd play Medina because he should be match fit after his training with Paraguay. It's hard not to start Heber if he can go the first half.

Ronny mentioned the heat in CR, which means I expect the team to maybe hold off on its press for a bit, or even mellow it down entirely. He also mentioned JP as being out with "a disease", which I think means probably something flu-like (I hope).

Scally is currently not on the roster and we don't know if he's been added. Last night was the deadline to add people to the roster. So we should see tinnerholm or Rocha maybe if tinnerholm can't go the full 90. We are gonna be gased. I'd love to see taty up front. He's had a bunch of training already being with the Argentina squad. I want to see him take over and get a hat trick.

Why do we think Tinnerholm may not be able to go the full 90? Is there some sort of knock he picked up that I've missed?

Only Torres out. There goes everyone's theory about the injuries and whatnot. I think the team is just trying to keep quiet about everything going into what is arguably the most important competitive match in our history.

Also mentioned Ronny and Mata are going to be doing a press conference (wasn't clear if tomorrow or tonight tbh)

tonight, they always do press conferences night before after the training at the stadium.

this is another reason why concacaf is being a hole about YS/ citi. they want the stadium the night before for visiting team to train and do press conference the night before. YS/ citi may not want to.

What’s the deal with the tickets , weren’t season tickets supposed to get this game as a freebie, I checked my account manager and don’t see anything

The headline of the article once you click on it is "One Missing for Champions League Opener". Then why the hell did they use a picture of Callens for it?

I immediately got concerned that he picked up an injury.

click bait...lol. people dont know who torres is tbf

Outside the box thinking: Would they put Mitrita or Medina at the No. 10? Feel like either of those players would have more quality in that role than Parks, who's fine for an emergency backup but I don't think he has the creativity for it. Medina, for all his faults, is a creative player. Same with Mitrita.

Maybe a lineup of:

Mitrita-Heber-Tati
-----Medina---
--Parks-Ring---
Mata-Callens-Chanot-Tinner
-----Johnson---

Are you referring to the away leg or the "home" leg? Both tickets were honestly free but you can be referring to either match.

I think the injuries are all true. Deila said it himself. Just cause they didn't list them on the injury list doesn't mean they are fully match fit. This is also part of the gaming. Like we've all be saying.. probably won't see maxi start. Maybe not even tinnerholm depending on how he feels. We don't really want to risk injuries and early subs

I wouldn't be surprised with Medina starting in the 10 in place of Maxi. Not only is Maxi coming back from an injury, but Medina has also been playing for a month (same as Taty) and would probably be best to have them start since they are in the best game-shape due to the CONMEBOL U23 they were both in.

May be better to not risk Maxi in the first game of the season.
