I saw the airplane emoji and momentarily thought they did the unthinkable and chartered an airplane for free travel.

This is exactly what I thought. And then I saw non-member price and realized it was only for the game. You'd think if they were saying "join us for free" that meant they were taking care of the larger obstacle of airfare.

Kind of surprising MLS teams have done so poorly in this competition. I’m watching Club America v Tigres right now and it’s not that entertaining. Both teams pretty bad in possession and make a ton of mistakes. Would think MLS isn’t that far off if not even with them on talent.
With this being a Costa Rican team we SHOULD cruise. If everyone on that team is at best on Mata’s level we’ll win on own goals.

CCL has been bad for MLS for a bunch of reasons. Can't really compare America v Tigres. Two good teams pressuring each other can sometimes look sloppy. Plus it's still early in their season. By the time CCL comes around, they are match fit while MLS teams are still in preseason mode.

Our greatest advantage is our depth and bringing back all our starters. I don't see why we can't make a decent run ... Except for maybe our home field isn't home... Or a field..

I still remember watching a Houston pre-season game last year (they were in CCL). One of the worst performances I have ever seen. Their starters literally couldn't put 3 passes together and Tommy Mac was their best player on the field. I don't remember who they were playing but it was a USL or bad MLS team, not a quality club like the Brazilians we played at Florida Cup.

This year preseason is all about beating San Carlos in February and getting ready to beat Tigres in March. Out of the 2 games just saw the last 70 minutes of the second, but I thought we looked ready to dominate a team whose best player is the other Sabo (Alvaro Saborio -- remember him? Good player but cant compete at MLS level any more at 35). Having essentially our entire team back is going to be a huge advantage from a typical MLS team going into CCL.

We dont have to play a Liga MX team until after 2 CCL and 2 MLS games. No preseason form excuses for NYCFC.

Worried about Maxi's fitness for this one, even with it a month away. He looked to be hunched over trying to stretch something out (likely a calf), which can take a while, especially if you're flying everywhere.

according to Deila he had a calf cramp and expected him to be ready to travel for the preseason in california.

just a side note for San Carlos. they are playing two games a week for their regular season in january. they will have 6 games for all of january and by the time they play us they would of had 10 games under their belt. there may be some fatigue there.

Nah. Sounds like they're gonna be in form

us playing three games in a week and we tend to always look bad in the third game, even if its three games at home. i personally would not want to play 10 games in 6 weeks before a continental tournament. 4-5 games sure but not 10.

edit: Fantazma already responded to the question

San Carlos plays Wed 2/5, Sun 2/9, Wed 2/12, Sun 2/16 (against Herediano big game for them) and then us 2/20. 5th game in 15 days. That's a heavy schedule for a team that relies on a 37 year old striker.

putting it into that perspective makes it much better odds for us (though I can't say anyone here expects us to lose until the semi-finals anyway)

I checked Transfermarkt today and was surprised to see that the 2 big "haves" of MLS, meaning ATL & LAFC are not far from the top LigaMX teams in terms of valuation. Both ATL and LAFC are at almost 70 million for the whole team, same as club America and slightly below Monterrey at 100M and Tigres at 80M. We are fifth at 35M. Midtable in MLS is around 22 million and you seem to need at least 30 to be a contender. In Liga MX contenders are worth at least 60M and midtable is probably 45.

Of course market value isn't everything, but outside of ATL&LAFC I would say you can expect a similarly situated LigaMX team to be worth twice an MLS team.

Any word on whether this will be on FS?
