I don't get this. The Peru National Team should look to call up the most talented players they have, right? Sure, he may not play, but what if Peru were to have suffered injuries to 1-2 defenders or one of them got a red card or something? Now they would have to use another Peruvian player they bring instead of Callens (who also "wouldn't be used") that is of lesser quality (in their eyes)?

Other players in other leagues may not have to quarantine for 10 days, and other leagues aren't entering playoffs. Peru needs to do what's best for them, but they should also be congizant of what situation they are asking the player to put himself in. Asking Callens to be forced to miss a playoff game for his club team just to sit on the bench seems to be an avoidable situation. They know what MLS players are up to right now. The USMNT avoided taking MLS players for this window. Peru could have avoided this situation.

For Callens to (in their eyes) hopefully sit on the bench, but potentially come in for an injured or suspended player in an important WCQ for CONMEBOL which is incredibly competitive. And to also gain valuable training time with the national team head coach, staff, and rest of the first team.

As Fantazma Fantazma noted, if this was a friendly, different story.

Totally Peru's fault that MLS expanded the playoffs and scheduled games during the FIFA break with the quarantine rules that MLS created.

MLS could have created a schedule that played around this but they valued jimjamming more regular season matches in October. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Based on training pics:

Tavon Gray is back training with the team. Probably unlikely we'll see him, but with our injuries, could see him on the team sheet instead of a 3rd keeper.

Medina has evolved his hair style into a man-bun. I'm not sure what to say about this.

I think Gray is just working out, running, etc.. A month ago, Deila mentioned Gray as being "out the rest of the season". Ronny mentioned that the recovery was 2-3 months (whatever "recovery" actually means) and that he should be ready for the 1st of January.

To provide further clarification, Ronny lumped Zelalem into this exact same status and since we don't know what the actual injuries were, it's hard to say where either of them are at recovery at this moment. It's possible that Gray's recovery is accelerating rapidly for one reason or another, but recovering one month out instead of the anticipated 2-3 seems like a bit of a reach.

I'd still be surprised if we saw him available off the bench.

Watching NYCFC: Home for the City Playoff Preview, Deila isn't a fan of the one game elimination playoff structure.

Gray's injury was to the ankle and required surgery. Not sure what the injury specifically was but he's running around now so I'm good with that.

You're probably right that it's way too soon to see him ok the bench

NFL playoffs/Super Bowl, CFP, and March Madness are the biggest events in US sports.

yes - but to say that it's the american way would mean it's the same across all sports leagues. which it simply isn't.

hockey, basketball, baseball - all series.

i'm fine with single game elimination though. what's more exciting than that? bring it or don't. no second chances. that's the way sports should be!

Can you imagine a 7 game MLS playoff series? Would take 2 in a half weeks playing 3 games a week

Why does saying it's the American way mean its the same across all sports leagues? That seems like quite a leap.

wouldn't "the American way" be something that's unique to or started in America? ...And that would be the seven game format

... So wouldn't "the American way" be the seven game format? It's so common to have one-off tournaments in the world that how could it be "so american"?

It's like imagine you pointed out someone's personality trait by saying "oh wow that's SO SoupInNYC to write with his right hand!", just isn't anything really unique.

Or at least that's what I think it is. Not same way across sports, but rather about the uniqueness / how much it stands out

that’s so unAmerican to call him out like that.

wasnt the original NASL like a best out of three? with like mini games ( like extra time) within the games to make sure there is a winner after each game and no ties? I think it was something like that.
