If i'm understanding the standings and qualifications correctly...
we win this and then we need either:
1) ORL to get no more than 4 points in their last 2 games, which gives them 25 points and same ppg as us. first tiebreaker is wins, and we'd get 4th place based on 12 wins vs ORL's 11.
or
2) CLB to get no more than 3 points in their last 2 games, which would give them 24 points and less ppg than us. They could also get 4 points but, we'd be tied on Wins and they'd beat us on GD unless we can manage to get a +7 or higher GD vs chicago.
am i misunderstanding?

Just remember that as long as no East games get canceled, all teams will play 23 games and PPG is irrelevant. We can just focus on pure points/wins/GD unless someone has a COVID cancellation.
I posted about this in the schedule thread, and ya that's the case. Also we wouldn't need a +7, it would be a +5 at minimum. Because at minimum a loss + win would put them back on +4 ahead of us.
Ronny stated Isi was tested and if negative, he will be allowed to train with the team again.

4 spot still in play. We must win and columbus must tie (tiebreaker on wins) or lose (higher PPG). Remember when Columbus came to RBA in first place and we dismantled them? They've regressed a bit since then, but I still wouldn't want to travel to face them. The poor showings in the MLSIsBack feel like a lifetime ago, and even with the injuries, it feels impossible we can get a bye. Not sure if it's Ronny or our players, but something's been working.
I have a hard time believing Rony has anything to do with the recent success. Would be interested if someone had some sort of analysis to shed any light how RD is making NYCFC better on the field. All he really had to do was not screw things up from last year and hope that the playoff yips would take a year off. I'll think I'll give Rony credit for making a difference and helping this team find a little extra if this team gets to the final.
If we thought Ronny was to blame for the team's struggles early in the season, I think it's very unfair to say he has nothing to do with their success. We've seen this with Vieira and Dome -- it takes time for new coaches to figure things out, and time for the players to figure out the coach. It certainly seems like that has happened on both sides.
i don't think anyone will argue that things changed drastically after the players went and sat down with him for a talk. to me, that strongly indicates that the players are the driving force behind how they play and the result is their performances on the field.
I will give Ronny credit in revitalizing Medina and Gary. Both have started to find new confidence in themselves and are contributing significantly more on the field than they were last year. Sure, that has a lot to do with getting actual playing time, but Ronny has believed in them and continued giving them minutes. Sometimes that's all that's needed.
On the whole, I personally think Ronny did more bad than good. I think we could have pulled off a lot more results and scored a lot more goals had he not used Ring on the wing and played Isi, Mitri, Taty more. But we'll never know what impact Ronny truly had negative or positive. The players will never say anything until after retirement.. maybe.
This makes more sense than just giving Rony credit now because the general thought was that he had the team discombobulated earlier so it's only fair. I'd have to look over the line up and sub choices over the campaign but off hand as Moogoo has alluded to it may have been to the detriment of good results. I still can't get all that excited about Gary and Medina but I hope my mind is changed in the playoffs. I think the defense is the best thing about this team. Mata will Mata but he has been really good, Chanot and Callens playing tough and Anton... Anton just seemed to level up this season.
The other thing we need to address regarding when the team played poorly is how useless Heber was. He rarely saw the saw the ball for long stretches and when he did he was terrible. I'm not sure how to split that among Ronny, Heber's lack of fitness, Covid whatever, and randomness.
But he had to listen. This is a team, and not one person is responsible for any segment of it. The players may have had a meeting with him, but he had to listen and had to make the changes. He does get credit for making those changes that have allowed the team to play better.
Do I think Ronny Deila is a great coach? No. Do I think he's a bad coach? No. He's fine. Would I like NYCFC to have a better coach? Yes. But he's capable of doing it.
I suppose the team is driven by the senior players at the moment. Chanot, Callens, Moralez, Johnson, perhaps Tinnerholm, and especially Ring, whose leading abilities Johnson pointed out after that infamous sit-in, after which the team went on a winning spree. If the front office are doing their work properly, they already have the new head coach lined up. After the strange kind of season that this has been, it would be quite a natural thing to do. Deila seems to be a nice bloke and were he up to the task, I'd have nothing against him, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
i don't think he will either, nor do i think he should. crazy season and we have a respectable record. had we had better luck and didn't get body slammed by 2020 in a million different ways, i think we would have finished higher in the table. Absolutely no solid reason to give Ronny the boot unless there's some stuff going on behind the scenes we don't know about.
The way we are heating up now, I have some hope that we can make a run in the playoffs and take down Tigres in CCL since we are match fit/sharp now and it'll be more fair.
