Away - October 28 - Toronto (Postgame)

Honestly one of the best showings of the season.
Medina was hungry, Taty was hungry, the team was hungry... If we keep this up going into the playoffs, we could see a deep run...!

It was an exciting game to watch as someone else pointed out for 75 minutes. We were all over Toronto. This is from the buildup thread...
We play some boring football with rare moment of brilliance. Can’t discount a few of the goals we scored last week with great buildup and passing but those moments have been few and far between. We can’t seem to score goals unless it’s shots on a wide open net with goalie out of position.
I’d like to see Taty rip one outside of the box.
Looking back at what I said a few days ago we still can’t put away chances. Taty had his chances that he couldn’t put away but he did rip one outside the box and that resulted in our one goal on a rebound.
Overall happy we got the win and took it to Toronto. Club needs to go out and buy a goal scorer for next year.

For once it was more than just the Anton and Maxi show. If Medina can string a few of those together he might actually be worth the TAM next year. My other whipping boy Mata also had a great match. Also, Ring should never play anywhere other than CDM.

We should have finished better but it’s hard to point to anyone who had a bad match. Gonzales amd Bradley, OTOH...

if we somehow win the cup this year, i will lose my mind.

If Pro was consistent with how it calls hand balls and determining the position of a sphere in relation to intersecting planes (or something like that) then I believe we would actually be in third place right now.

Taty has an incredible ability to crack off high-velocity shots with little stepping into it.

Westberg gave up a terrible rebound there, but I think with as quick as Taty uncorked that, and the pace he got behind it, it didn't allow Westberg to really be able to handle the shot, and control the rebound.

Great composure by Medina there to finish the rebound, but I don't think we're too far off of Taty scoring off a shot like that.

remember all those points dropped due to unbelievably awful ref calls? If they did their job NYCFC would be in front of the MLS Digital darlings, Orlando.

Why do people always assume that when the bad calls that hurt us get fixed in an alternate universe, that other corrected calls never help another team?

ETA: and that the bad calls that helped us which we forgot about because that's how memory works also don't get fixed?

The results have actually been mostly good lately. Are we sometimes too harsh on the teamm/Ronny because they often don't pass the "eye test'? Tonight they did save for the finishing.

The aforementioned finishing would be my big worry about going far in the play offs. We just don't have a real striker. Signing a number 9 has to be the priority in the next transfer window. I don't fully trust Heber. He wasn't setting the world on fire before the injury and I'm not totally convinced he might not turn out to be a one season wonder.

I believe this is correct. To make the top 4:

  • NYCFC must win out, and
  • the loser of the Columbus-Orlando game loses one more game, or they draw and either team loses one more game.
In some of those scenarios we end up even on points but I'm pretty sure NYC has more wins.

Less likely alternative is if NYC drops points in one game then it needs one of these teams to pretty much lose out.

The most likely one being Columbus as they host Philly (current shield leaders) and then are at Orlando. Those are two very losable games after they just lost at DCU.

Because we all know that PRO......and Doyle.....hate NYCFC!

We've lost three games since August 24. I think it's time we start to realize that this is a really good soccer team. Yes there are some issues, yes guys are hurt, but this team is certainly capable of going on a deep run in the playoffs. We are probably true-talent no worse than the 3rd best team in the East, and we are not much worse than Philly and Columbus. Why not us?

Every time we win, the forum goes super optimistic and then as soon as we lose we're a clown show. heh.

...I think we can make a deep run, even MLS final if we are on our day. The only problem is, we haven't faced Philly since MiB so... who knows...!

I don't know what to think. Watching the games I never feel confident, like I did in the later stages of the Dome Era. I still think Deila is in over his head. Our best players are our wing backs and our number 10, who is getting old. And our keeper.

I don't feel like this is a cup winning team. I hope I'm wrong. On to 2021!

I'm not sure it's a Cup-winning team either, but the West is really weak and in the East, the top teams are Columbus, Philly, Orlando, and Toronto. I think Columbus is better than us, Philly is probably better, but it's not impossible to beat those teams.

Unlike the last two seasons with Atlanta and LAFC, this season does not have a runaway leader. A lot of good but flawed teams are going to be in the mix, and we are definitely one of those good but flawed teams. Do I think we're going to go on a run? Probably not. Another loss in the conference semifinals is probably the most likely outcome to the season. But stranger things have happened.

Because it’s an alternative Universe that has us higher up the table and that’s a nicer Universe duh.

You think we have more talent than two of Toronto, Philly, Columbus, and Orlando? Even with Heber, Sands, and Mitrita all gone now?

I love the optimism, and once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen, but I feel like we haven't played well against a good team since our 1-1 draw at Orlando. Yeah, we played really well last night, but TFC was missing key players (that will or should actually be back in the playoffs, unlike ours except for Isi).
