Cincinnati (Home) - Postmatch

Would own goals be better if they were negative for the team committing rather than plus the team benefiting?

5-2 or 3-0, which one is better?

Man, FC Cincinnati is freakin' terrible.

Great performance tonight. Maxi is so underrated by the rest of the league, but he's our MVP. This team goes as far as Maxi will take us.

Tough news about Sands, but the 23-day break between MLS games comes at the right time. Chance he doesn't even miss an MLS game.

Late in the game hot takes from watching the replay. I always miss the 5-spot matches. maybe I should cancel my STs.

So much quality tonight even at half speed at times.
Love that Dome was mad at the half.
66’ Chanot and Rocha work out of the back. Very nice.
68’ Taty with a clever touch and run down the right.
Keaton turn at 73’ portends good things in the future.
Tinner MOTM on any other night.
Ibeagha skinned on second goal regardless of OG. (Shows how important Sands is.)
Stuver shaky all night. I want to see Barrazza.
Keaton touch at 78’ to Maxi is pure quality
Maxi should not be taking corners.
Keaton yellow very pro.
Last goal was f-in pretty. Taty-Maxi-Rocha-Maxi-Taty-Maxi (note Rocha run at end, too).
And Haak make his debut!

Loved that Taty, Rocha, and Keaton all looked sharp, in addition to the players you normally expect quality from.

And so seldom do we spank teams we are supposed to spank. Very good sign for this team. Good night all around.

Well I played Stuver on my Fantasy Team because it's the last week of the first season, I'm not in contention for anything, and YOLO. Your plan means I would get a clean sheet bonus so I like it.

Yes, the opponent was Cincy. But some of that offensive power was due to having Heber, Mitri, Taty, Shradi and Maxi all on the field at the same time.

I hope we see this again. I'd like to see if we can out offense a better team despite the liabilities this could open up going the other way.

NYCFC scouting session
“So, what do we know about Cincy?”
“Lads, it’s Cincinnati.”
“Ok: Heber, Maxi, Taty, Shradi, Mitrita. Do it.”

Jokes aside, the aggressiveness was good to see. NYCFC knew that Cincy was missing players and threw a ton of firepower out there, with the idea of blowing them out early. Which exactly happened.

Stuver has nice distribution. After catching a free kick around 13' he sent the ball 70 yards on one bounce perfectly to Mitra running on the left side, and he's done stuff like that before. Generally he doesn't scare me passing from the back. But I can't defend his shot stopping. On the 2 OGs though, I can't fault him for the second. Our defense just broke down. It was one of those plays where my stomach told me we were going to give up a goal a few seconds before it happened. We just let them keep the ball too long without a clearance. The shot he blocked was so close and hard that I can't fault him for not controlling it.
Bt I'd really like to see Barazza against North Carolina.

I asked Barraza after the game if he was going to be playing on Wednesday but he just gave a canned "it's up to the manager" response.

Maxi was a magician last night, Taty did a lot of really nice things, and Heber's finish on the second goal was a thing of beauty.

Dome said after the game that he was very displeased with the way the guys were playing in the first half after going up three, so I'm interested to see what he's referring to during my rewatch

Probably displeased with the last 10-15 minutes of the first half. Team took their foot off the pedal a bit being 3-0 up, got lazy with passing which ultimately ended up in the corner and resulting OG.

Solid game against a shit opponent, but good to see we took it to them and didn't futz around. Mitri looked a bit better and actually passed to more than just Maxi and Heber, which is nice to see. Hopefully his confidence/comfort with his teammates is growing. Heber's second goal was fucking gorgeous. Off the chest, one touch with the outside of his right foot... beautiful.

I loved when Adi launched a shot out for a throw in and tried to put blame on Maxi that he fouled him. Yes, a wee man 5'4" definitely knocked over a 6'5" guy. Your shot was terrible, accept it Adi.

Haak and Parks looked good in their time on the pitch. Isi in midfield was an interesting choice but he looked good in that spot. Curious to see how he would fare against a stronger side than Cincy.

I thought it was pretty clear. It's funny he said that because I said the exact same thing to roxfontaine at the half. After they went up three you could see they knew they had Cincinnati's number and they started playing loose and silly, especially when they had the ball near the Cincy goal. Instead of working it they way they got the first 3 goals they started looking for style points.

The best and most important development last night was seeing Mitri look to pass to his teammates. Previously his tendency to try to beat the defense himself completely neutralized Heber and killed a significant number of plays in the danger zone. This is a critical turning point (hopefully).

Some thoughts:
- I think we need to keep trying to play maxi in the midfield. He gets all over the field anyway but when he is a winger and drops back to collect the ball and playmaking he leaves our other attackers more covered by an opposing team's defense and less able to get a chance off a long ball, having mitri, heber, and taty all up does wonders for creating opportunities, especially on the counter.
- Loved Isi in the midfield, getting a goal scoring threat coming in late who can actually hit a shot (a la lampard when he was at his best here) gives our wingbacks much more to work with when they have to cross into the box. We will have to see against tougher opponents but if playing in the midfield gets isi (our second highest goal scorer) on the field I think you do it.
- Really sucks that sands got his arm broken (by his own keeper ffs) but we got really lucky that we have the gold cup break giving him a good window to recover, but we are starting to see the extent of our CB depth and another homegrown signing could help fill the gaps (don't need a big name/expensive signing just someone for depth)
- Rocha had a good shift against a shit opponent but imagine if we signed a LB/LWB as good as Tinnerholm, we would be relentless, especially in the 3-4-3.
-Good to see HAAK get some time, definitely looked like a first pro-game type of performance but I hope he starts getting more minutes down the stretch and can make the James Sands jump next season.
-Pep seemed pretty pleased at the performance of his future team, I hope we didn't get extra motivation because of that as I want this to be the start of a real run.
-Even though we scored 5 (7 really) we were really sloppy in front of goal especially toward the end of each half, imagine that this isn't even us at our best.
- Parks deserves a start, I don't think he is the best super sub and I would like to see how he can get on from the beginning.
