I get that being a professional athlete is really difficult but damn to basically be an mls player for all of your career and not play a single MLS minute in either the open cup or regular season has gotta hurt. He’s played the open cup but only in the USL championship on loan. It’s gotta feel like you’re so close to your moment but never actually having it. That’s gotta be bitter. But hey, if I got paid to practice a game with some friends everyday I’d take the money.

He never really made major money in his career -- at least compared to other sports. His salary last year, per MLSPA, was $85k. Not a ton of money in NYC. Some of these guys will be comfortable after retirement; not him.

He made 85k to train and sit on a bench every week. I'm sure he had other gig(s), and even if not he might have a spouse that makes more. Overall I think even by not making major money, a lot of us would gladly take 85k to do that.

I personally would not just bc it would feel... Unfulfilling? I guess.

My assumption, he has been pursuing coaching throughout his career. He was under contract with us, we did train him and raise his profile over the last couple years and had him in our plans for next season. DCU likely contacted us for permission to interview him.

It's not like he's going to JP Morgan for finance, he's transitioning within the league. The fee seems fair and reasonable.
