Pretty massive federal case charging wealthy parents and coaches at elite universities for kids to gain admission to schools as athletes even though they don’t play the particular sport.

Looks like former pro Jorge Salcedo (UCLA men’s coach) got caught up in this.

Hope they burn everyone on the list. Figuratively.

This story is insane. Example: Yale's women's soccer coach agreed to recruit a kid who didn't even play the sport, and was bribed for doing so $400,000.

They're calling out Lori Loughlin's instagram famous daughter now.

She's had collaborations with Sephora, Estee Lauder and Too Faced.
Seems a bit commony-sense-like, but perhaps she shouldn’t have flouted her college experience as an inter-web influencer?

With all the legal advantages rich families have, from tutors to private school to prep courses to the ultimate college mega donation, it’s just a bit ironical that they could say, “Fck it, let’s crime.” - [can’t claim that brilliant line that I saw on twitter.]

Was kind of thinking the same thing. Like these are the lesser rich getting caught. For all intents and purposes Lori Laughlin is a B celebrity.

If you’re super rich, you’re probably doing the same thing but you’ll never get caught.

They should have all done what rich people in New England do with their screw up kids who got rejected by real schools, send them to Hampshire College.

Maybe this is why they are shutting it down, they all simply cheated their way into actual colleges instead

If your super rich, you can afford the "tuition" for non-qualified students, which isn't illegal, nor really a secret.

Hampshire college or UNH?

The Swansea fans are none too happy with the American ownership right now. Club has been mismanaged terribly, but it also seems to have started before the sale. And the local Swansea fans seem prone to believing conspiracy theories about how ownership is intentionally tanking the team to somehow make money by losing money. There was a lot of that on display in the Jack to a King movie about their rise from the lowest tier of professional football, and near relegation out of it, to the Premier League.
All of which is to say I expect there will be a fair bit of schadenfreude among the fanbase about the legal troubles of one of their ownership group.

Who knows, the way the US Gvt likes to run a deficit while printing money, there’s a very good chance Steve Manuchin decides to break the bank and buy both Ronaldo and Messi turning Swansea into a juggernaut.

the only reason these people are being dealt with (in my opinion) is because the government didnt get their cut. All these bribes were getting done through a charitable organization and then these people were claiming these huge charitable deductions on their tax returns. Meanwhile, they used the money to fraud their kids into college.

That’s probably it boiled down since the charges include mail fraud, racketeering, etc. what’s interesting is this investigation was discovered/started as an offshoot of another separate investigation that’s so far not been divulged. Very curious what that is that would have triggered this sting.... an IRS audit of one of the accused? Something more sinister/running afoul of the law?
