CONCACAF Gold Cup 2019

Yes on Pomykal.

And wrong thread, but kinda related I guess, FC Dallas just sold Carlos Gruezo for more $ than RB got for Tyler Adams
[wrong thread]

What happens with Gruezo’s green card now that he’s going to Germany? Does he lose it (did Harrison lose his)?

Well, Tyler Adams was not exactly an arm's length transaction. More like an internal transfer.

Abandoning Permanent Resident Status
You may also lose your permanent resident status by intentionally abandoning it. You may be found to have abandoned your status if you:

  • Move to another country, intending to live there permanently.
  • Remain outside of the United States for an extended period of time, unless you intended this to be a temporary absence, as shown by:
    • The reason for your trip;
    • How long you intended to be absent from the United States;
    • Any other circumstances of your absence; and
    • Any events that may have prolonged your absence.
    • Note: Obtaining a re-entry permit from USCIS before you leave, or a returning resident visa (SB-1) from a U.S. consulate while abroad, may assist you in showing that you intended only a temporary absence.
  • Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the United States for any period.
  • Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your U.S. tax returns.

Does anyone actually think we stand a chance? We’ve played some really bad teams and made them look good at times and even struggled.

Mexico's tournament has been nearly parallel to ours.
True. And I’d argue that the USMNT has outperformed expectations considering recent pre-tournament performances. Whereas Mexico is supposed to be the stable NT and they’re struggling mightily and playing down to the competition.

The US may lose badly, or they could win, it all depends on which sides show up. Pulisic and McKinnie are playing possessed. Both have chips on their shoulders.

Bradley sucks. Him and Jozy need to be out of the next squad. Or they need to be subs only.
I can't be mad at Jozy when the backup is Zardes. Despite Jozy missing his chance, he was doing hold-ups and flick-ons at a level that Zardes is nowhere close to capable of, and it really hurt to lose that by taking Jozy out so early.

Couple other thoughts:
  • I'm done with the Pulisic as a 10 / "free 8" experiment. Winger or nothing for me
  • Tyler Boyd would be CP's backup, not Morris
  • Arriola has so much energy and passion and fight that he'd be my captain and starting LW until Weah is ready
  • It's gotta be McKennie + Adams as the two 8's. We've seen it work before
  • As mentioned above, Bradley was utter shit. I hope someone makes a montage
  • Reggie Cannon was good
  • Nick Lima was pretty good all tournament, wish he was left footed b/c Ream is bleh
  • I hope Sargent has a breakout season - Jozy was good but we need a finisher, and it's not Zardes

Do you feel like that would have solved the issue where Tata assigned a man-marker to stick to Pulisic for the whole second half? I thought Pulisic did well in this free role both in the first half of this match and in the bulk of the tournament.

Typical Bradley, but even slower. I can't deal with his turnovers, bad passing and lackluster defense anymore. When does this madness finally end??

Probably when he's on another team that gets eliminated from going to the World Cup? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing while expecting different results. The USMNT is absolutely insane.

If we're going to field Bradley, and remember that what he does offer is excellent passing and vision, which is valuable, we're going to have to carry him the way Juve carried Pirlo, by putting him in a midfield three with two runners so Bradley doesn't really have to move.

The problem is that the above is not how Berhalter wants to set up, at least for now.

If we're sticking with this version of Greggyball then I say have the midfield two be Adams and McKennie, and keep Bradley on the bench in case we need to switch to pinging long balls out to the wingers (though, that's how we played against Mexico and Jamaica, so...)
