COVID-19 - Leagues Suspended

To the extent this is simply (1) start in the controlled Disney campus and (2) spread elsewhere when safe, I'm on board. It's as good a plan as any. It's the hybrid tournament/normal season mutation with some games counting for both I find off-putting.

No Shimmer for me please. Dessert topping or floor wax. Pick one.

But it is 1 and 2, though. They're playing this tournament in July as a way to start, then the plan is to spread to home stadiums in August and finish the regular season that way. Having these games count towards the regular season is literally just a way to get some games in the books. Of course they might have to stop at some point, but this is just a way to restart things, get a sense of the lay of the land, then either they stay in Orlando and play regular season games there, or they can branch out and start going to home stadiums.

Extra points for the new shimmer reference.

I kind of agree that the meaningless cup appears a useless add on, but maybe we will care more about it once the games start.

it will be the most important trophy in the history of MLS if we win. If we don’t, it was a stupid and meaningless experiment to draw eyeballs.

Liga MX was just cancelled. What does that tell you about CCL? ain't gonna happen. We got saved from the hands of Tigres at home lol

you don't think when CCL starts again next year that we will continue where we left off? I figured they would. Or they might replay all rounds? that would be kinda crazy. and our hunt for a "home" stadium will continue to be sad and aggravating.

So MLS and NBA are both now exploring playing at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex.

lol I saw this. It’s gonna be like 500 people in that complex kinda defeating purpose of all this safe distancing.

no. Liga mx already added teams for 2021 competition. I think they will just cancel 2020.

Did anyone else get the NYC MTA email to take a survey on attitudes about returning to mass transit, trying to determine what will it take to get people back on the subway and buses? The main question was will I come back to mass transit after Cuomo lifts the stay at home order. My answer was hell to the no. I think we need to open things up - carefully - but no way I’m going near a subway just because stay at home is lifted and we enter Phase 1. Said I would walk, drive or continue to WFH until I’m satisfied it is safe. The subway is the last place I will return to. Subways cars have AC and ventilation systems which are major spreaders, and i see no way to enforce mask compliance, and think 80% is best one could hope for. I honestly don’t know how the city solves this. I also find it crazy that the state and city are restricting beaches and houses of worship and summer camps but appear to be on the verge of encouraging people to get back on the subway. We have the dumbest political class imaginable.

I personally wouldn’t have a problem taking mass transit today, but I understand that people’s reactions are going to vary on that.

I do have the good fortune of being in good health and not interacting with people who are at risk, which could definitely affect my thinking.

What if anything would you be wary of?

I can't imagine living through this in NYC. How can you accomplish even half of your necessary trips without repeatedly being forced into congested spaces? The only time I've been within 6 feet of someone since mid-march (except for my wife and kids) was last week when I had to have blood drawn for a life insurance exam. For most NY'ers the most reasonable option is uber or cab which, while safer than subway or bus, is still relatively high risk, especially if you have to take one frequently.
I wonder how many people will give up the City for a bedroom community suburb or move to another market altogether. Having a yard, more affordable square footage inside, and the ability to park a car free is something that seems much more valuable all of a sudden.
Any City Dwellers on here had any new urge to move?

Move? Lol nope. But I welcome others to do it maybe rents go down.

i do agree With the concern of the subway, but I have gone to supermarkets and it’s crowded there but I take the mask and gloves I know it don’t mean much but it’s something.

i also did laundry in laundromat I don’t stay in there though I drop of the clothes and then go back outside and come back when it’s done. but there are few people in it already and it’s not a big one. Also been waiting at the pizza spot for my slices and subways in like with four people waiting to order my lunch.

it is what it is right now and people out there still working so those that need to go out there will assuming the risk because there is no other way now.

when i do go out, i am routinely within 6 feet of people. it's just not possible to be 6 feet away from someone at all times. you can try, but as always, people want to get going to where they want to go and do what they want to do. sometimes there just isn't enough space.

i have no desire to move outside the city. i'm with Fantazma Fantazma , maybe rent will go down, although I doubt it. I think real estate prices will continue to drop though...

interesting, so i assume they doing this in cycles. since taty/ maxi/ callens went yesterday

They can't do everyone at once. So they can spread guys out over a day, but there can't be more than four players on the field at once, since they have to be in their own quadrants. So let's assume for a moment each players gets a 1-hour window, then there has to be turnover time to disinfect and clean, you probably can have guys coming in over 90-minute windows. So based on a 10-hour day, you would only be able to fit six groups of 4, or 24 players a day.

Presumably they would split the team in half, each player can train there every other day. Since I doubt guys are going to want to go to a training session in the late afternoon or early evening. Plus these are voluntary, so odds are not every player is participating right now.
