Dallas Postmatch

I am saying watch in one v ones. Jack often has a hard time getting a ball off.

Given he's still not that age, I agree. I do think they are fairly close skill wise though, but I see a good bit of difference in tactical awareness. I attribute at least some of that to where they've trained. But then again, it never comes for some kids.
I agree, but I think that's a product of the defender knowing he can play the man tight rather than worry about a pass, nobody is making the close-quarters run for Jack so he's on an island completely by himself. Any UCL team has 1-2 players within a few yards for a diagonal pass or through ball.

We looked like our old selves in the second half. Khiry is like a new man. Sad for lampard the human being. I hope her unavailable for selection though. We are worlds better without him.

What the f is slosh flounders doing out there?
How the hell did Slosh allow a goal on his short side? That was same old Saunders and unacceptable. Iraola gave him a WTF look immediately after it. And that screwup with Mena at the top of the box - that's all on Saunders as its his job as GK to call the ball and take it since he see the field in front of him - he was indecisive.

I think it's decision making too. Watched Pulisic yesterday and he never made the wrong decision with the ball.

Made 39 of 44 pass attempts.

You definitely play better with better teammates but the decision making is what sets him apart.

The first goal was all on Saunders as he left the near post open. Arrgghhh.

Basically you know that NYCFC has to score at least two goals to win because Saunders is having one of these moments at least every game.
Yes. +1 to our opponent each game for a Saunders howler. We now need to add an additional +1 to 4 for Mena. That's a lot of freebies.

First 13 games - without Lampard: 4-5-4 (wins-losses-draws) with -6 goal differential
Last 17 games - with Lampard: 8-5-4 with +5 goal differential

Note that I'm counting the NJ bloodbath as without Lampard as it was his first game back and he only came on at the end for a few minutes because we were already way behind. The next three matches after that we were 1-1-1 with a 0 GD so perhaps you could count those as neutral as maybe it took a few games for him to get fully fit and integrated into the team.

Another way of looking at that is when both Jack and Iraola cemented their positions. With those two on the field, I won't wager, I'll guarantee that Mix would be 100x more effective in the Attacking Mid role, that Lamprd now occupies, than he was at the beginning of the season.

When a defender makes a mistake like Saunders did on the Urruti goal, they're usually pulled the next game. But slosh of "fuck" is just riding out the season staring. Unacceptable double standard.

#StartEirik
A new theory on why he keeps with Saunders instead of Eirik.

In that terrible US Open loss to the Kosmos, Eirik's distribution was awful. He might be worse than Saunders with the ball at his feet. Since we always play out the back and have no target man up field, he might be going with the ball moving guy instead of the better goaltender.

Just a thought.

Eirik had nobody to distribute to - playing with non-starters is not a valid way to assess a persons ability.

I asked you a question and that was your retort? Slinging pre-pubesic insults is so classy... bravo, bra-vo.

It's prepubescent.

In any case, you have given me the third degree on every opinion I've had on this forum. Starting to get tired of it.

You saying he had no-one to distribute to on the field because it's a US Open cup match with lesser players is ridiculous.

-There are 11 players on the field.
-PV likes the team to play out the back.
-There were a few occasions, from my vantage point at Fordham, where Eirik either handled the ball poorly or was responsible for a chance on goal coming back the other way.
- One incident happened in the first half where he threw a ball to the other team and they came with a chance at goal.
- Saunders distribution isn't fantastic either.

That's where I drew my conclusions.

Ah yes, score one for you because you learned me so good with a spelling mistake when typing on my phone. Keep it up buck-o!

Don't make yourself out to be a victim if you find somebody disagreeing with your posts. I'm not giving you any more of a third degree (your words, not mine) than anybody else and while not everybody agrees with what I generally post, a lot do.

I appreciate that you elaborated on your initial post, but it still doesn't change my point that evaluating Eirik based on how he plays with the bench players is not assessing him fairly. We've all seen this year how the starters lose a vital outlet in the passing game if Hernandez is at RB or Bravo is at DMid. Now imagine that the entire backline and DMid is unreliable as an outlet (Martinez, Mena, White, Gomez, and Lopez at DMid), so of course Eirik is going to be playing nervy. That's not his fault, that's reality; and an important point of information - Eirik looked awesome playing the ball with his feet in preseason games when he was paired with the starters - his only bad game was his last when he got stuck again with the subs against FC Cincinnati.

Some thoughts about yesterday's game (from minute 30 onward as traffic was insane yesterday...):

-Whoa, Dallas is really good. Their D is organized, their two defensive midfielders gain possession and move it into attack quickly, they combine well in the final third, and Mauro Diaz is worth the price of admission. They came into Yankee Stadium after a midweek match and bossed the match. Keep in mind NYCFC was looking strong the last 20 minutes because FCD was securing a result, and even then looked so dangerous going forward. They are the favorites for MLS Cup.

-NYCFC had serious issues with anything up the middle, especially in the final third. Villa needed smoke signals he was so much on an island. Mendoza was comical trying to create in the final third. Dribble and pass to the other team.

-Mena, it's been said enough but he makes 2-3 egregious mistakes a game. He was the CB who let Akindele straight through on goal, right? Yeeeeesh.

-I could watch that Harrison cross to Shelton for weeks. Beautiful early ball curving in to where Khiry could use his strength and speed to go up and get it. Fantastic goal.

-It is great to watch players try to take the ball from Pirlo. What a safety valve there.

-I get that PV wants to play from the back, but last night it was getting killed in midfield before it could get into the final third. It almost seems that they play better when they go to 3 at the back and say "screw it, let's go for it."

-Brilliant had a hell of a game. So many good emergency blocks. Wish we could see more of a Brilliant-Chanot pairing.

-With Lamps probably out, PV has options. Mikey Lopez is the obvious one (let's not talk Mix) but would be interesting to move Tommy Mac back to midfield and start Shelton.

-Villa is off, not sure if he needs rest or something. Maybe you start Taylor and bring him on in the 60th min on Friday?

-Team still needs more urgency. Hasn't come out and dominated a game in months - maybe since 5-1 vs Colorado?

Apart from pre-season, he had his opportunity against Cosmos and clearly didn't make a great impression.

And fucking right score one for me.
