It's shouldn't be that hard of an ask for coach to be here for three seasons. It could be more beneficial to the club to target some of sightly lesser pedigree that will actually stick around for their entire contract, but the real issue is whether these decision are being made for the good of the club or the good of CFG.

If the club choose GVB over Dome, they can burn in hell.

If we hired someone of lesser pedigree, this board would riot.

GVB could coach anywhere in europe
Right now other than maybe 30 or so clubs. And he’s probably going to be out next coach.

I am surprised that you cannot acknowledge that having a manager leave in the middle of a winning season prompting an epic late season derailment followed by another manager leaving after just one season and a first place finish are circumstances that may be deemed by some as less than optimal or concerning. You may disagree, or not be concerned, but that's not a stretch or unreasonable. It certainly warrants some thought as to whether we are better off with a list posed by Gotham Gator potentially for a longer term commitment than CFG short term recruits.

For me, it's not at all about the stadium, STH issues, or CFG spending - all issues I care much less about than other folks. I am legitimately interested to think about whether we are helped or hindered by the CFG management carousel. I don't know the answer. Maybe GVB for a couple of seasons will bring a Tata-like return, in a way someone inferior couldn't. Maybe Dome was a couple of Mata and Chanot fuck ups away from proving the value of quality over tenure. But in any event, it's a topic that is at least debate-worthy, especially during the dark days of the off-season.

I agree it’s not optimal.

My point is that if a foreign manager has success for us, he’s going to naturally have better opportunities to manage.

Don't forget everyone wants that "big name" DP. Will GvB help us draw better players than Mehdi Ballouchy would as coach?

*No idea if Mehdi is pursuing a first team job in the future, he's just the only guy in our stable that quickly came to mind.

I have never gone to a soccer game to watch a coach manage a team.

I watch soccer to watch players play the game. One of my two expectations for NYCFC is that the team plays an attractive entertaining game that I enjoy watching (the other is that we get enough points to have a home playoff game and a realistic chance at winning the MLS Cup).

I watched some Feyenoord on ESPN+ last season -- they played attractive entertaining soccer under Gio. Looks like a good hire to me even if he is only here for 2 years. PV and Dome didn't even have a track record before they started with us and they were both excellent.

Lol, I first read this as "better players than Mehdi Ballouchy", not that GvB would be better than Mehdi Ballouchy at drawing better players.

Mehdi is a fantastic coach and will be managaing a senior team somewhere soon enough.

I'll take a Dutch league winner over a mediocre coach who has no higher aspirations. If he wants to replace Pep he has to be great here. Sure long term continuity would be nice in a perfect world but it is what it is.

this. I don’t get why people are up in arms about this being a “audition” for replacing Pep in possibly two years. You know what GVB will want to do to show he’s worthy to manage City? Win trophies here! At the end of the day that’s all we want.

GVB’s incentives should be aligned - he needs to win to show his worth. It’s way more aligned than Dome coming over here as PV left and CFG needed somebody. GVB has managed European first flight football and won trophies (and with a club not named Ajax or PSV in the Netherlands). Now, there are a host of reasons why GVB could fail by not adopting/understanding MLS, but at the end of the day the move makes sense.

Without knowing who the other candidates are, I would go so far as to say I hope he's the coach.
