I think a big name might not be so quick to leave for a bigger league or club -- most likely in Europe -- as he's presumably already proven himself at that level. Of course I say this with Tata being a perfect counter example to prove me wrong, but besides there always being exceptions, Tata also had accomplished what he came to Atlanta to do --probably much quicker than he dreamed. And Tata didn't go Europe, which is where most rising coaches like PV or Torrent are likely to move up to. Tata really was a special case.

i disagree there, if its a big name there will be suitors in europe wanting to bring them because they know they are proven at the euro level. I think if people want long term manager it cant be someone just starting like PV or someone like dome who is just here to fill in. someone like a Porter would be someone to look into ( or hey try a petke) because those guys are probably not good enough to go to europe but can be useful in MLS. they failed with kreis but that was not reason to not try again locally.

tata is a special case but the way i see it: he went to europe, he tried it, didnt work, and came back to this side of the world. no one else got him for their team in europe and he managed both argentina and barcelona. he was probably seen as unproven for europe so the risk was not there to lose him to europe.

For sure big name types will get offers. The difference is the PV and DT types come here and from the beginning see it as a way station to something better. A big name is coming here for a different reason -- he doesn't need NYCFC as a stepping stone to something better. So maybe he's coming to prove he can win under any limitations or circumstances. It's a different motivation. And again, this assumes big means really big.

Oh, and is the "new stadium" reference in Ian's tweet something we should pay attention to? I know he has the prayerful hands emoji next to it, but I don't think he'd mention that without knowing something.

none of these guys could handle MLS's salary cap and apparently, CFG's slow process of getting desired players.

If it's a legitimate BIG name I don't think their coming without promises of things that might not have been forthcoming to someone lower profile like Dome. CFG might have seen the declining attendances despite on field performances and realized we need some big names to put butts in the seats.

I hate this, I really do. This gives me such bad vibes when I supported metrostars/red bulls and a big reason why I abandoned them as a fan. To have a front office that plays musical chairs with their head coach is a sure fire way of pissing off the fans, for whatever reason.

This is so similar to Hans Backe, petke, Jesse, Chris Armas, not even going back to Richie William's, bruce arena, JCO. This is a sure fire way of not building sustainable success on the pitch and having fans wonder wtf are they doing? Do they even care???????

Not a good day. Even though we knew this was coming.

Is this on the front office, or on Dome? By all accounts Dome had issues with how the team/league is run and he wanted out. The front office wanted to keep him.

From what Dome said and what we've heard, I'm not convinced Dome is in the right here, not when we had a top-3 roster in the entire league.

I think in Dome's case it's both. But the big picture blame is on CFG. What do u think will happen with guys like PV, and Dome, who dont fully understand everything about MLS. Of course they will leave. That's why I am hoping that they hire a guy like Petke, or another MLS coach that will be here for more then 2 years, assuming they are successful.

For me Petke is the right choice. New Yorker, the players love playing for him, smart, passionate (sometimes to a fault).

i feel like he knows as much as we do and its just careless to put that there. Thought he puts the praying hands there meaning we hope there is a stadium announcement soon.

hes joining Hertha Berlins board i think.

he also ripped into MLS throughout his time as USMNT manager. Would be a strange marriage if he then went back to coach in the league. Then again, it could be spun as signaling a change that even Klinsi wants to be part of it. He’s a name the US market knows. And Eurosnobs know. and he’ll have zero clue how to solve our LB situation and make us miserable watching him try. The last part sounds about right.

I'd love to see Petke!

Am I the only one who thinks living in NYC is a substantial reason?
