Eh. Depends on the Club right?

CFG appointed Patrick and Dome. Claudio was involved with Kreis so it’s not like he’s infallible either.

But the decision on what to do with Dome will be made at the Soriano level. If it gets really bad, the two times a year Khaldoon looks at our numbers, he may make the call. That’s the only way Dome goes before December.
Yeah, my concern with that is how much distance Soriano has from the day to day intangibles. It's an arrangement that lends itself to infrequent, drastic adjustments, which are likely to be more destabilizing for the system.

A secondary concern from experience is that people tend to be confused by forked hierarchies or non-hierarchical organizations. When it's unclear who to talk to about what, or who those people talk to, communications get jammed up in the network, which reduces the quality and quantity of information that decision makers have to work with and therefore the quality of decisions.

Best case scenario (other than Dome pulling a bunch of wins out of nowhere) is that Arteta takes a gig somewhere this summer and Pep "desperately needs his long time deputy back" and we find someone to salvage our season.

Counterpoint - Pep never would ha e let CFG move him if he was really that important to what Pep is doing.

I think he has long enough to put his mark on this team and what I've seen is nothing special.

However, he will have this season to show something, otherwise it should be time to move on to someone else.

I'd set the over/under at 2 for number of poor results before we seeing #DOMEOUT signs in the stands.

That’s kind of what I was getting at. Did TR ever turn on Kreis? I don’t remember

I don't remember seeing much directed at Kries from the general fan base but that may have been more of a first season honeymoon phase thing rather than an indicator of future bad coaching situations. I'd bet the turn on Dome will happen faster because of the success experienced under PV. Even the most casual fans have to see a very similar roster that won consistently under PV now producing at a much lower level.

Everybody around me in the stands was commenting on how fractured the team looks and how boring the match was.

My buddy that sits next to me, and was one of the first STH, is pretty down on the club and finds this season to be blah. He’s of the belief that if the product on the field is crap, then the club needs a big name or two to rally around for fans, because his belief is that while Ring is a good player, he’s not a guy that will ever generate energy for marketing. Last season, my buddy bailed on half the games, mostly when Dome was leading the team in circles, and I have a feeling he’s going to start bailing on more matches if they continue to look like yesterday.

I think our team roster is actually better right now than it was most of last year. 30+ games of Mitrita looks like it is more value than 17 games from Villa. Last years team had 5 matches from Herrera. He made no impact.

There is no reason for this roster to be a fringe playoff team. I continue to maintain that this is one of the best rosters in MLS, and if we get a good striker we might be the best. At worst, second-best behind Atlanta.

So there's really no reason to be a fringe playoff team.

Aside from Dome. If he can't coach this roster we need to bring someone in who can.

I think there is some merit in needing an excellent Striker to win in MLS.

Look back the last few years. How many top teams didn’t have a good striker?

What would warrant a firing of Dome? A big losing streak? Missing the playoffs? I'm afraid if we maintain a slightly better than .500 record and make the playoffs, we could be with this guy for a while.

Nobody knows, but I think that's a perilous result for Dome. For one thing it would mean 2 years in a row of finishing worse than the year before. You cannot get better every year, but it's bad to get worse twice in a row. I expect they would look at the arc of the year, but I do not know how that plays out if they add a major piece or 2 midseason.
Also, ticket renewals are done before the season ends. I expect that has an effect.

It goes back to how they define success. I’ve neber heard Dome, Claudio or Brad Sims give their definition.

I think the playoffs are the bar. Kreis missed the playoffs and was sacked. Viera made the playoffs each of his years in charge.

That’s a good and rational response.

I hope it’s not their response, but you are right that there is precedent there.

I would like to share your optimism, but I think that several other teams keep on getting better and we don't, and we may be somewhere in the 5-8 range in terms of overall roster quality. I think ATL, SKC, LAFC, Seattle, maybe DCU have rosters at least as good as ours, and maybe better, and they are waaay closer to the finished product in terms of team functioning. We have gaping holes at left back and striker, our right back may not be as good as advertised, and depending on Lewis's evolution maybe none of our wingers are truly great or great fits. Personally I only rank Max, Mitri (based on a tiny sample), SJ, Callens, and Ring as truly top-notch. Chanot on certain days. Of those Ring is an MLS-best 6 but is being played at the 8 position, where he may not be as excellent. Maxi is also having problems adjusting to the latest changes.

I think we have stagnated a bit. We have progressed since the time we had Ethan White, Mickey Lopez, RJ Allen, Bravo, etc as starters, but ATL and LAFC have really raised the bar, and some other teams have really improved.

If just making the playoffs is the barometer, then we’ve got an organization that doesn’t aim high. It’s one thing to aim for the playoffs if the team missed the year before and has a shoestring budget, but we don’t, so expectations should be higher. At worst, top three in east with wins in both the USOpen Cup and MLS Cup. Short of that and the team is underperforming.
