Expansion Rumors Megathread

It's a big circle. They could build in Gary, Indiana and have to pay the premium. Chicago, Aurora, Evanston, Joliet are all within 35 miles.
Does this mean that Gary FC is no longer being considered for an expansion bid?

Some new team should even drop the city element and just go full Real River Boca Sporting FC Old Boys United Wednesday.
Correction, on Wednesday.

Like when John Harkes signs with Sheffield, Wednesday.

Ah the good old days of like 3 people following the game and the newspapers giving us a tiny blurb every now and then!

Tangent here but I was just reading Paul Tenorio’s piece on the Chicago Stadium move and laughed out loud reading this:

Frustration over these numbers [Wednesday night 6,074 attendance] is merited. Chicago has plenty of soccer history, having produced players like Brian McBride, Brad Guzan, Mike Magee, Jonathan Spector, Eric Lichaj, Ned Grabavoy and Michael Bradley. It also has the demographics to be a top MLS city. Chicago is a sleeping giant. It can be so much more than it has been over the past dozen years.

This post will always haunt me:

Three more games to go before the opener. Here's how I rank our squad so far:

  1. David Villa - He may not have been dominant through two preseason games, but his body of work clearly earns him the top spot.
  2. Ned Grabavoy - This may be controversial, but he's looked like a rock so far. He plays like the most versatile midfielder we have, which is key in our 4-4-2 diamond. He also knows MLS play, and I think that gives him a slight leg up going into our franchise's first game of record.
Although I'm pretty proud of this foresight:

3. Mix Diskerud - I've never been insanely impressed with Mix, and it's still unclear to me what role he prefers to play. That said, he's very talented and once he settles in, he may be the best player on the team. Hopefully his varied abilities help him thrive in our system rather than restrict his overall impact.

Kind of nailed it, sans his lackadaisical attitude which also contributed to his failure here.

Will we see unbalanced conferences next year? Put Nashville and Miami in the East and play with a 14/12 split? Easier for scheduling, and with Austin followed by Sacramento (most likely) coming next, they'll balance back up within two years without moving Chicago to the West just for a season. Especially during a year in which Chicago might be rebranding and trying to establish a new normal.

Wouldn’t be very fair for playoffs or CCL spots.

Would love to see a team in Phoenix. My wife is from the area, and we go back to see family every year. Would be a solid location, I think.

We would love a team in the league as well! I think the area is ready for it, and with SD or Vegas you would get a nice two team package with Phoenix to have a rival with a city MLS wants bad as well
