MLS Fantasy Strategy

Going into Round 3 I'm more than likely to transfer Loyd off my team. This was the 2nd week he didn't even get off the bench.

This in all likelihood will be my only move. By making 1 transfer this week I'll get a 3rd freebie for Round 4. That's when the Double Game Weeks begin.
I'm on the fence whether to chase DGW players yet. Last year I did much better with them later in the season than early. Could be chance, could be that I got better at picking the right ones. Can't say. But early on it seemed a lot of my DGW players sat out all or most of one game, or they were just terrible on one of the games.
Of course my worst DGW was fairly late in the season when Laurent Ciman got a red card about 10-20 minutes into the first game, and was thereby suspended for the second game, netting me negative points for his efforts.

I don't really disagree, especially in light of the fact on who is getting the extra games in the round.

DC United look terrible so far and I also got burned more than once with them, because their coach doesn't seem to give players both ends of the DGW. At least that was the case in 2015.

I'm really not excited about anyone on New England. Their 2 games are against us (and I really can't root for any opposing player in those circumstances) and NYRB (I'm figuring they're going to snap out of their funk sooner or later).

Vancouver has some interesting choices, but both their matches are against the Galaxy and Houston. That could be a tough week for them.

I like FC Dallas and it looks like I'm going to ride them until that horse drops. Like I said, I'm looking to dump Loyd and I might replace him with another FCD defender (Zimmerman? Harris?). I'm also hoping Castillo will be back from his injury. If so, I'll transfer him back in. I might also bring in Gonzalez as my 'keeper. They have DCU and Columbus, so I can see the Dallas players bringing home the points in Round 4.

This fantasy week encompasses two calendar weeks. What is the story with the intl call ups, will they be back in time for the games on the 2nd and 3rd?

They should be. Most players who have a game on Tuesday will also be playing on Saturday or Sunday.

Clarence Goodson is on the mlssoccer.com injury report this week with back problems. Guess that explains why he didn't play in Round 3. It doesn't list him as "OUT", but as usual with the report, you have to take it with an ocean of salt.

I don't like to do my transfers until Friday, but either way I was planning on dumping Goodson this week. I was going to remove Loyd, but with Dallas losing 7 players this week to international duty, I figure he'll end up getting both ends of the DGW.

I used to wait till Friday to make transfers, but this year the injury reports and updates are even worse then last year. It's almost pointless to wait for them, I hope this improves as the season goes on.

Good point regarding the injury list. TBH, the biggest reason I wait is because I'm always changing my mind on who I want in and who I want out.

Right now I plan on removing Bingham, Goodson and Mix and bringing in Ousted, Steres and Morales. Don't know what I plan to do this time tomorrow. ;)

I agree the injury list is a mess, but they usually at least manage to add anyone who missed last week because of injury. This usually happens Tues-Thurs. Once that happens. The red warning notice also shows up on the fantasy pages. So if you wait for that to happen, it saves you from adding a player who missed last week and you didn't otherwise notice.

Ugh, I did not pay attention to the U23's. I thought I was getting 2 games out of Walker Zimmerman

Just came back from the Fantasy page and that's exactly what I ended up doing.

My starting lineup this week:

G = Ousted, Vancouver, DGW

D = Steres, L.A.
D = Hedges, Dallas, DGW
D = Loyd, Dallas, DGW
D = Wynne, San Jose

M = Grella, NYRB
M = Castillo, Dallas, DGW
M = Diaz, Dallas, DGW
M = Morales, Vancouver, DGW

F = Villa, NYCFC
F = Giovonco, Toronto, "C"

Thinking in somewhat long range terms, next week I'll probably transfer Grella out and bring back Mix. Doing one transfer will give me an extra for Round 6 where 6 teams have a DGW.

You know, you're right. I guess it's just an automatic knee jerk reflex action to give Gio the "C" every week.

Took a -8 this week to get my team right with all the injuries and DGWs. (Are the DGWs anymore when played over 2 weeks? Maybe DGRs (Double Game Rounds)). But I won't post the lineup till tonight since I play mgarbowski mgarbowski this round and don't want to give him any advantage.

Portland has upcoming DGWs in Rounds 6, 8 and 10, but has a bye in Round 7. Unless you can afford to sub them, or already have them on your team, I'd forego the opportunity in Round 6.
