FIFA World Cup 2018 - Group E (Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia)

That duo tackle in the box against the Serbia's Mitrovic was ridiculous. On what planet is that not a penalty? VAR? It seems that FIFA did not want Serbia to advance for political reasons.

ETA: for those who need a visual

If the Serbian was a woman and the Swiss were men, and this happened at a club, it would be considered sexual assault, or something like that.

100% a penalty.

Which reasons would those be?

If you're being facetious im not getting into a political debate. If you're not...short reason, Serbians and Albanians do not like each other. Serbia has been butting heads with Germany for EU inclusion to recognize Kosovo independence, which they refuse to do. German ref could be considered a conflict of interest. The words being spoke to the ref on the pitch in Serbian were pretty aggressive. That would lead me to believe the tension was high. It's a f'd situation in the region still and it's heated emotions on all sides. Also, there's just no other explanation as to how that wasn't a penalty with VAR on parade.

It’s a travesty that VAR called it (essentially) a dive yet he didn’t get a Yellow.
But he did?

81' Neymar (Brazil) is shown the yellow card.
79' Delay over. They are ready to continue.
79' Video Review: Penalty Kick. Referee decision on field cancelled.
79' Delay in match (Brazil). Video Review.

You realize that FIFA is going to fine Xhaka and Shaqiri for making their Albanian Eagle gesture during their scoring celebrations, right?

I don't think FIFA itself gives one single shit about either Serbia or Albania (or Kosovo). They've always been, and continue to be, perfectly happy to be very cozy with repressive regimes; they're just in it for the money.

And I don't know if you watched ENG v TUN, but similar penalties should have been given for dragging Harry Kane down in the box and weren't, so I doubt that in specifically *this* match the oversight is particularly more sinister than the usual incompetence.

I thought Neymar's yellow was given for dissent after that foul he committed on the touchline. The one which moved Coutinho to get himself yellowed for dissent about Neymar's card. No?
I'm not certain as I wasn't able to watch the match. Through exchanging texts with a friend who was watching, it seemed as though the yellow came for the dive.

No, it was well after. Neymar committed a foul, got pissed about it and punched the ball away, so the ref threw a yellow card.
Gotcha, still makes sense timeline-wise for my messages, literally went as such (and I assumed it was for the dive):

Me: They reversed the pk decision?
Him: yeah
Him: neymar was a little...too...dramatic in his fall
Me: Shocker
Him: he just got a yellow
Him: he's super pissed

Don't worry, there are plenty of England fans who are convinced that was a FIFA conspiracy as well.

The yellow was for something else after play restarted, I believe. IIRC, I thought, wow, he should really be off there because he should have been previously carded for the dive.

Oops. Read the rest of the posts, Midas, you asshole. What Kput says.

Another interesting thing there is if it isn’t a foul, then it should (arguably, if not definitely) be a red on Mitrovic. The elbow he throws is 1000x worse than what we saw Callens sent off for in the playoffs.

They did get fined for political celebrations.

The Harry Kane oversight specifically prompted a meeting to keep an eye out for and review players being dragged down in the box. It was discussed during the broadcast.

Can Taurus Taurus please show up to tell us how Jesus is more important than Coutinho? Coutinho is Brazil’s best player.

And dear lord, why in the hell is Jesus starting over Firmino? Every single time it’s obvious to the entire rest of the world that Firmino makes the whole team better, especially Coutinho and Neymar.

More positives there than you’ll get in 300 minutes of Jesus.
Showing up......

So, I think you are referring to our little debate/provocation on Coutinhio vs KDB to Coutinho vs Gabriel Jesus.

Nothing has changed.
I still pick KDB on my team over Coutinho and I believe unlike the 1 year grace period I stated for KDB, I provided a 2-3 year period for Gabriel Jesus. So it remains to be seen.

But yes, currently Neymar and Coutinho are Brazil's best.

But let's also not forget how all of this resurfaced. France is in the Final
