Whooop! Croatia gets it done.

But Schmeichel is one helluva keeper.

yeeeeesh, barely got out of that. is what it is. Sometimes you lay an egg but surviving to play on was clutch. We can fix it next round.

I would have loved for rebic to chip schmeichel for the clean win, but going around I suppose still gives a chance on goal with a slight chance of a PK (which he did get), but if as he was falling he could have sliced at it and put it in net.... that would have be so much more satisfying. I hate going to shootouts, feels so cheap.

We played such a hands off game, I can barely recall a foul. Not that I like that style of game, but it was a notable deviation. Like they were saving themselves some cards for the more technical players on Spain. Russia might get the same treatment. We might try to play the more technical game and save ourselves for the semis, which I believe has cards wiped beforehand so only a red misses the finals. Then we can go back to a little more fiery play style.

Mexico looked terrific in the first 15-20 of this game - confident, assertive, dangerous. In the balance of the half, however, Brazil's quality showed.

Still not sure how this one is scoreless. A 2-1 lead for Brazil would seem about right.

Hopefully, Mexico can get back on track.

I love that Japan got out to a 2-0 and still got after it trying to get the third.

Belgium were one of the teams I was rooting for this tournament because I think they're fun to watch, but my two favorite games so far this tournament (that I've watched) have been Japan-Belgium and Japan-Senegal.

Half, through my father. My fantasy team is Malinska FC..... not a world famous town but coulda/shoulda been read as something balkan. I think I've also made some references to it elsewhere. I am born and bred NYer though, so probably just a poser to legit croats, but fuck 'em I say we when referring to Croatia. I know you are too, I recall reading it somewhere.

I honestly think Belgium are at least as talented on paper as Brazil. I did not get a chance to watch today (at work) but followed as closely as I could. I know there's two ways to look at it heading into the last eight. One is they under performed and had to come back against against Japan. The other is they stayed calm and composed and pulled off a great come back. People who actually were able to watch the match can more accurately comment on their form headed into this.
