Frank Lampard [Midfielder]

Frank was at training yesterday. He ran for about 30 minutes on his own and then did another 30 minute work out with the Strength coach. Vieira still calls it day by day but Vieira chuckled as he gave that response because he recognizes the frustration from fans and reporters.
He's never coming back save for maybe a token appearance before calling it quits. If he's running 30 minutes a day, he should be able to cover 4 miles easy at this point, and doing that every day, he should be match fit by now - a calf injury just isn't this debilitating - it isn't. A hamstring at his age could keep him down this long, but not a calf injury. Add to it the 30min of strength training, and he should have already been training with the team - the only possibility is that he isn't interested in giving max effort and instead is just going through the motions.

When did he get re-injured - 1/31 against FGCU? 14 weeks? I've come back from a sports hernia surgery faster than that. He's dogging the whole process.

Yeah it's highly suspicious. I've asked orthopedists and physical therapists and it should be 4-5 weeks for an injury like that. That's to return to 100% fitness. One assumes it would be less time for a professional athlete.

This whole thing stinks.

Could it be ...
Sunday: token appearance at DC
Monday: retirement frees up international spot
Tuesday: Peruvian striker is signed

Don't even need the token appearance. That's a waste of a sub. Hopefully the door smacks him on the way out.

a calf injury just isn't this debilitating - it isn't
I'm no doctor or athlete but I've heard Keith Hernandez talk on TV about his out-for-a-season calf injury so that makes me an expert. What he said was they're super hard to recover from and it takes a long time. According to Hernandez it definitely *can be* that debilitating, and in fact that injury was what made him decide to call it quits, but that process took an entire baseball season.

So the fact that Lampard is at training and working to get back on the field is a good sign. If he wasn't going to be able to do that I think the team wouldn't waste the time on a valuable DP spot, certainly not this long. I'm hoping he can come back and give us what we expected from this signing for the remaining 1/2 to 2/3 of a season.

I disagree that he's dogging rehab and I disagree on the injury assessment. Lampard has never been accused of a poor work rate in training or matches. It's part of what played into MCFC hanging onto him. As for the injury, Keith Hernandez missed nearly an entire season with the Mets due to a calf strain. The common theme beyond the injury itself is the age: 36/37. Injury recovery in athletes just isn't the same when they're older. I would think Lampard wants nothing more that to be out there on the pitch earning some sort of redemption. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll come back from this and will have to retire. RBNJ have a 26 year old DP that has played all of 1 game in 2016 due to injury. Shit happens. Ultimately I feel bad for us and I feel bad for Frank. It could have been a match made in heaven.

Seriously, trust me on this and forget about Hernandez.... Unless his calf was torn completely in half, or it just disappeared, it would have healed by now. Yes there are the 1% cases, but if that was it, he'd have retired already.

We must've watched that same Mets game on TV a few weeks ago...
ha Yankees through and through, only watch the Mets when they're on the West Coast and I'm having trouble sleeping. It was actually another Mets fan that mentioned the injury to me and I did some internet searching. When Hernandez recovered from the calf injury, he proceeded to injure his back moving furniture in his apartment. Lampard-esque you might say! :D

If it all happened the right way, him playing here could have made a huge impact, but boy has it just gone all wrong. If he was healthy to start this season, it may have even made a few people forget about last year, but he wasn't. Once thing for sure is IF he makes it back from this injury, he will eventually injure the calf again, and when that happens its Over for good.

He should even make a ceremonial send off sub or appearance at an NYCFC, especially at home. Educated and uneducated fans will Boo the fuck out of him. Probably the loudest of the year.

You underestimate how many NYCFC fans love Lampard because he played for Chelsea. I'll boo him, but a lot won't and will be confused as to why we're doing it.

He picked up an injury on January 21, 2015 playing for MCFC against Hamburger SV in a friendly in Abu Dhabi, and had to leave the game after 20 minutes. The injury was never really publicly discussed with details. They had to acknowledge it because he was pulled so early, but that was it. Most accounts give no information as to its nature; some speculate it was his hip but I don't think that was ever confirmed. He then averaged 17 minutes a game through April 12 before jumping to 69 minutes per game the last 6 weeks of the MC season.
My tin foil hat theory has been that this is the same injury -- whatever it was -- and he just never fully recovered from it. He maybe felt better late in the 2014-15 MC season but then the between-season physical showed it was worse than they thought. They hoped it would it get better with rest which is why they let him have an extended vacation through July before reporting to NYCFC in August but that didn't work. They're keeping this hush hush because they can't admit he's missed all this time for NYCFC because he got injured in a friendly playing for Man City in the UAE 3 weeks after they screwed us over by keeping him in Manchester.

This is admittedly wacky conspiracy territory, and some facts don't quite fit (such as he could at least play 10-20 minutes a game for them but apparently not for us) but given their prior lies about him and general secrecy, they can't complain.

My theory had always been that he picked up an injury eating a hamburger while having dinner at Minetta Tavern following a bustling day of sight-seeing around New York City.

If he picked up an injury from eating, it's definitely after a 2-hour binge session of Brazilian BBQ at Churrascaria Plataforma and the next morning's straining for relief.
