Galaxy Postmatch

I definitely saw the same. It looked empty at kickoff, but 10 minutes later or so and for the rest of the game it looked full.

I got to my seat about a minute and half in. It's funny when I come straight from Connecticut I always get in early. I met up with my buddy in the City first yesterday (he lives in Brooklyn and sadly is a Cows fan) the 4 express didn't seem to be running because of some maintenance issues? Had to take the slow 4 along with a ton of other City supporters and a fair few Galaxy fans as well arrived at the crowded security gates just in time to get inside the stadium as it was kicking off.

Because I have a Delta Amex credit card, I get CLEAR for $79. It's great at airport but it's amazing at Yankee Stadium. There was a 5-10 minutes wait for the normal security Suite Entrance. I gave my fingerprints and my guests (mother) with her bag also came through the CLEAR line even though she isn't a CLEAR member. Still needed to be bag searched and metal wand but there was security for just the CLEAR line. Was the fifth or sixth person through all security for the Suite Entrance even though I was three minutes late to the open of the gates.

I love CLEAR.

This may have been commented on earlier, but I thought that the turn-out was promising. It seemed to me that the reported attendance numbers of close to capacity looked to be pretty close to butts in seats. Even just the reported number was an increase by a couple of thousand from last year (I believe). Was it me, or did it look and feel like a full(ish) stadium (other than the uppers)?

I felt the same about full(ish) but the atmosphere is still eerily quiet. At times that I can hear a fly, flight! I must be the only fan chanting along with the supporters groups . although I was not a Pirlo fan, at prior seasons some fans would chant his name.

As a footnote to my comment that the stadium felt full, unfortunately there’s a huge marketing flaw with respect to the unused sections behind home plate and elsewhere. Having watched back various highlight videos, the Behind the Scenes and the playback from this weekend, the camera angles often primarily capture the empty seats. The backdrop of great goals is empty seats. Our promotional videos feature empty seats. It looks like the team is playing in an empty stadium and it looks dreadful. Many viewers would have no idea that those are inaccessible sections. Appearances are important for bringing in new fans and creating a brand of a flourishing and successful team.

I never really focused on the idea of covering the empty seats, but I have come around to think that they must consider doing something like that or something else technical or logistical. We are selling ourselves short otherwise.

Is my memory failing me or were those seats covered for a time in past seasons?

So true. It can’t be difficult. They already did it with the Etihad sign in the bleachers in the past. Seems silly not to do it in this instance.

Hmmmm. I always just ignore this thing. Just looked and see that I can get it for $99 as a Skymiles member. I think I may grab this.

wasnt it free last year? i definitely used Clear and didnt pay a thing. Maybe that was just promotional?

They gave out 3 months free last season. I signed up at the the Citi Field match, walked right in.

The rule at airports regarding companions is that only children under 18 can go through CLEAR as non-members. At the Stadium it can be anybody? Have you done this previously? I'm wondering if this was a discretionary accommodation or policy.

I brought guests in over 30 at yankee stadium. Should work for anyone.

Same experience. Works for over 40 too ;)

I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about the lower prices at Yankee Stadium. From what I can tell, it's about a 10-15% drop across the board. I do think, however, that they have fewer concessions people working.

I didn't think Herrera was very good, either. Several head scratchers. But he was 100x better than last week .
I just feel like he is a bit bored. Ring is the ball winner. Maxi is the puppeteer. What's Herrera supposed to be? Maybe Vieira needs to give him a role to grow into. He was a real centerpiece for the Venezuela U20s. I suspect he needs a challenge. Something other than "the other guy in our juggernaut midfield".

With his engine, skill and physical presence, I could see him becoming a Vidal / Paulinho sorta player who scores a decent number of scrappy goals. He should have had at least two in this match.

And yeah, I realize I'm speculating wildly. Maybe the challenge becomes winning his spot back from Ofori.

Everything else said in this thread I think I agree with. There's not a lot of meat left on this bone, but:
  • Sweat and Tinnerholm swapped wings on the goal we conceded, and I remember thinking that the Galaxy wingers may have swapped at the same time, so I thought it was a novel defensive tactic (that obviously went tits up). May have to re-watch.
  • Also think Medina is more Özil than the Robben-like inverted winger we might have expected. I wonder if Vieira is just negging him when he takes him off at 60" because he isn't pious enough.
  • I thought Ofori looked promising but he is gonna be a divisive figure. He strikes me as more of a thinker than a doer. A deep lying playmaker rather than a box to box scrapper. Our fanbase tends to be suspicious of those types of players. I look forward to the debate :)

I asked about Clear last year when they were doing the signups at the Stadium. They essentially said its the "same" but "different" system at the airport, meaning that signing up at the stadium for game access wouldn't get you in to the airport, but signing up at the airport would get you in to the stadium. And it was partly because of that difference that the stadium service was free (probably also a first year promotion). Never asked about age of companions. Was really just weirded-out by the notion of Gattaca in real life.

He can think all he wants so long as he does what he's thinking.

I didn't notice the lower prices, but it did seem as if prices aren't rounded off any more at the stands, like $4.67 instead of $5 (just a madeup example). And the hot chocolate was $9.75 which would normally be robbery, but on Sunday was overlooked and much needed the second half.

Have not used the CLEAR companion at an airport. But at Yankee Stadium my companion was above 18 and with a bag, and it was fine.
