General MLS Discussion

Red Bull vs Philly tonight, red card to Philly / Red Bull PK in 60’, Red Bull up 1-0 in 83 minute and about to jump us in the standings

We can’t lose (except when we - you know- lose). But almost every result the last two weeks has gone our way except for our own game. Nashville and Atlanta also tied.

The details on the Union red card are interesting. Their starting keeper Andre Blake is, like ours, away for Gold Cup duty. Their backup Matt Freese was caught coming out to gather up a slow back pass in the face of an onrushing opponent (Carmona). Freese actually got to the ball first, but was unable to control it. Sound familiar?
Unlike Barazza, Freese decided to just grab Carmona which was DOGSO Red plus a PK. So he will miss the next game and Philly will have to start their 3rd line goalkeeper and presumably sign a backup to a short term contract because I would guess they do not regularly carry four GKs.

Found this article about Matt Turner to be pretty interesting. Talks a lot about how undervalued keepers are in the game and looks into goals expected as well as post shot Goals expected which is an interesting twist on goals expected.

And check who wrote it!
PS: It shouldn't surprise anyone.

Both Toronto and Montreal are slated to have home games this Saturday and both are still listed as "TBD" on the league website (or "TBC" for Montreal).

About a week ago Canada announced relaxation of some travel restrictions, but I have not seen any indication that a full opening is imminent.

He’s right. It’s awfully hard to stay good in MLS over long periods of time, and especially throughout coaching changes.

ps: this isn’t a veiled comment on NYCFC and Deila. For one De Boer won 2 cups and Martino won MLS. But Atlanta was too eager to see De Boer go after a poor showing in MLS is Back (really?) and rumors he lost the clubhouse.
Of course they hire someone who led to a union grievance.

Can’t put this all on Heinze though. I don’t see how he repeatedly violates the CBA with his training schedule and the team sporting director is unaware.

sounders rotating and suffering injuries - so they are starting 5 teenagers. crazy.

Anyone else see Nani take the kick-off before the whistle tonight? That was kinda funny. I don't remember ever seeing that before.

Inter Miami goalkeeper Nick Marsman calls 5-0 loss to New England “a complete disaster”
Miami, with the worst record and fewest goals in the league, lost its sixth game in a row under first-year coach Phil Neville. Five of those losses have been shutouts. Miami dropped to 2-8-2. The Revolution is 9-3-3.
Goalkeeper Nick Marsman, making his debut since arriving from the Dutch league, called it “a complete disaster” and said he had not experienced a game like that his entire career.

yea. the problem with miami is there is no team. a lot of individuals players. some with actual talent. but there is no team and none of them are buying what neville's selling. even with a bad coach, a good team can still score and squeeze out draws.

in other goalkeeper news... our pal stu got stunned by ruidiaz, while standing too far out of his net. austin lose 1-0 against a mostly academy side. that's gotta suck.
